The Lost Buddhist 'Yuanmingyuan' • Dayi Wuzhongshan
The Lost Buddhist 'Yuanmingyuan' • Dayi Wuzhongshan
Wuzhongshan is a part of the eastern foot of the Qionglai Mountain Range. Although it is not very famous now, it is an extremely important Amitabha dojo in the history of Chinese Buddhism. It is also a Buddhist holy place on the 'Southern Silk Road' from ancient Sichuan to India, located in the Wushan Township of Heiming Town, Dayi County, 80 kilometers away from Chengdu.
This is truly a treasure-level route, where you can feel the dojo of the ancient Buddha Amitabha, see the ancient trees and redwoods, taste the ancient tea of Wuzhongshan, and there are ancient cultural relics, I call it the lost holy land.
Kaihua Temple is an ancient temple built 2000 years ago in Wuzhongshan. It is not only the first temple in southern China, but also an important witness of the Southern Silk Road. It was built six years later than the first Buddhist temple in China, Luoyang White Horse Temple. The ruins of the destroyed temples can be seen everywhere around Kaihua Temple, which is called 'Buddhist Yuanmingyuan'.
Jiewang Temple is located next to the archway of 'Wuzhong's First Zen Forest'. The most magical place is the 'King of Chinese Redwood' in front of the temple.
Mingyue Temple, a small temple in the deep mountains, is a real practice field. The wall of the temple is written with the schedule of Mingyue Temple, morning class 4:30, morning meal 7:00, out of the slope 8:00..... The conditions of the small temple masters in the deep mountains are very poor, there is no merit box in the temple, and the masters do not accept offerings. Only some homemade black tea is placed on the windowsill for happy connection.
The mountain gate of Wuzhong's First Zen Forest is built entirely of stone carvings, with stone foundations, stone pillars, and stone eaves. The ancient and simple atmosphere reveals an extraordinary historical and cultural heritage, welcoming guests from all directions.
Shifo Temple is also a subsidiary temple of Mingyue Temple, standing on a gentle slope of the mountain. People carved this huge stone on the spot, and there are Buddha statues on all four sides of the stone, hence the name Shifo Temple.
