Jiangsu locals are so tight-lipped! This hidden gem of a water town is seriously underrated!
Yancheng, Jiangsu: A Low-key Treasure City
Across the vast land of China, numerous cities shine like brilliant pearls, each radiating a unique charm. Yancheng, Jiangsu, is one such city—low-key yet brimming with endless surprises. This time, my journey took me to Dazong Lake in Yancheng, where I unexpectedly stumbled upon a water town seemingly untouched by time—the Eastern Jin Water City.
Stepping into the Eastern Jin Water City, I was greeted by the gentle glow of white walls and grey tiles under the sunlight. Ancient stone bridges spanned across babbling streams, and the flagstone streets of the old town, polished smooth by time, exuded an air of antiquity. The town embodies the tranquil leisure of a small Jiangnan water town, where every stream and bridge whispers tales of bygone eras. It also carries the historical charm of the Jian'an era, transporting visitors back in time to experience the passion and talent of the literati of that period.
Located within the Dazong Lake Tourist Resort, the Eastern Jin Water City offers visitors a rich and diverse experience. You can stroll leisurely through the ancient streets, absorbing the historical atmosphere, or embark on a boat trip, drifting along the waterways and admiring the scenery on both banks. After sightseeing, savor the fresh local seafood, its delicate flavors bursting on your palate. Especially during summer, the resort introduces new water activities, adding a touch of coolness and fun to the hot days. Moreover, the relative lack of crowds compared to popular attractions allows visitors to enjoy every moment of their trip at their own pace, making it an excellent choice for off-season summer travel.
