Dharma Drum Mountain Nongchan Temple was built in 1975 by the old man of Dongchu. After the old man of Dongchu passed away, Master Shengyan inherited the legal system. The Shuiyue Dojo of Dharma Drum Mountain Nongchan Temple, which was expanded by Master Shengyan, was opened on December 29, 2012. It was built by the team of famous Taiwanese architect Yao Renxi. The Shuiyue Dojo is entirely built with clear water. There is no place to burn incense in the entire Buddhist hall, only lighting is used instead. Buddhist classics such as the Diamond Sutra and the Heart Sutra are hollowed out and carved on the outer wall of the Buddhist hall. The solemn Buddhist hall is integrated with the mountain view. It is a new landmark of Buddhist culture and art in Taiwan with the functions of "belief tourism" and "religion promotion".

I visited the Dharma Drum Mountain Nung Chan Monastery and felt a deep sense of serenity. The monastery's peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by lush greenery, immediately calmed my mind. As I walked through the tranquil courtyards and admired the beautiful architecture, I felt a sense of connection to Buddhist teachings. The monks' gentle smiles and warm hospitality made me feel welcome. I participated in a meditation session, and the stillness and silence helped me clear my mind. I felt refreshed, renewed, and more at peace, carrying a sense of calm with me long after I left.

Zen Mountain Retreat: Encounter Spiritual Serenity at Dharma Drum Mountain Nung Chan Monastery
Located in the outskirts of Taipei, Dharma Drum Mountain Nung Chan Monastery is nestled among the mountains, resembling a tranquil paradise in the clouds. Arriving in the early morning, the mountain mist swirls around, and the breeze carries the fresh scent of pine and cypress, making the air feel exceptionally pure. As you ascend the temple's pathways, the view gradually opens up, and the elegant architecture harmonizes with the natural landscape, inspiring a sense of profound reverence.
In front of the main hall, the stone carvings and wooden structures exude the Zen philosophy's simplicity and depth. Devotees sit quietly in the serene meditation hall, chanting sutras with lowered eyes, while the sound of the Zen bell drifts with the wind, as if playing a harmonious melody for the earth. The surrounding gardens are adorned with lush vegetation, winding stone paths, and a clear lotus pond reflecting the blue sky and the temple's silhouette, evoking a deep sense of the intertwining of nature and spirituality.
Dharma Drum Mountain Nung Chan Monastery is not only a place for spiritual practice but also a sanctuary for the soul. Here, the clamor of the mundane world is kept at bay by the mountains, allowing the mind to return to tranquility. It seems that with each step, one draws closer to the true essence of life.
