The earliest record of Slender West Lake appeared in the Book of Song during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, which has a history of more than 1,500 years. It was not formed in one era. Instead, it gradually developed as successive dynasties continued to dredge the county and govern it, and gardens were built on both sides of the river. It was once a moat, also known as Baozhuang River and Paoshan River. The name was changed to Slender West Lake because of a poem by Wang Hang (hang fourth tone) a poet from Qiantang, Zhejiang Province in the Qing Dynasty: [Monkey][Monkey] Weeping willows continue to connect with the withered weeds, and the wild geese-toothed rainbow bridge looks like a picture. It is also the same as the other lakes, so it should be called Slender West Lake.

Xu Garden: A memorial hall for Xu Baoshan, the commander of the Second Army of the Xinhai Revolution. Xu Baoshan was from Dantu, Zhenjiang. In his early years, he sold illegal salt in the Jianghuai area. Later, he followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the Xinhai Revolution and then defected to Yuan Shikai. He benefited the people during his lifetime and died in 1913. The people raised funds for two years and built Xu Garden in 1915 to commemorate him. Although Xu Baoshan was a warrior, he liked to collect antiques and paintings. He was eventually assassinated by a vase bomb dropped by Chen Qimei, the governor of Shanghai. The two characters "Xu Yuan" have very different fonts. "Xu" is regular script while "Yuan" is cursive script. The character "Yuan" is like a tiger in a cage, implying that no matter how ferocious Xu Baoshan was, he was just a tiger in a cage.

Xiaojin Mountain: The highest mountain in Yangzhou is only 28 meters high. It doesn’t matter how high a mountain is, as long as it has layers. Diaoyutai: When Emperor Qianlong arrived at Yangzhou's Slender West Lake and saw fish jumping out of the water, he decided to go fishing, which made the officials accompanying him very anxious. The emperor has his own rules for fishing: the fishing rod cannot be too small, he cannot catch small fish, and he cannot wait too long. So they sent sailors who were good at swimming to lurk at the bottom of the river, using lotus leaves to cover their heads and lotus stems to breathe. When the emperor cast his fishing hook, they would hang the red carp (also known as dragon fish) that had been prepared in advance on the hook. The emperor was very puzzled, why was it that every time he caught a dragon fish? The official replied: "How dare a fish approach the emperor? The long live golden hook is only for dragons." The emperor was very pleased and named the cooking platform Diaoyutai.
Wuting Bridge: It is also called Lotus Bridge because it is built on the lotus stem. Every step brings a different scene. Every place is like a painting of Fuzhuang. One-third of the world is bright moonlight night, and two-thirds of the scoundrels are in Yangzhou. The most distinctive and artistically representative bridge is the Wuting Bridge.
According to legend, the salt merchant bribed the emperor's entourage to draw a blueprint of the White Pagoda, and built a pagoda with salt bags overnight. The next day, fog rose and Qianlong saw a white pagoda in the distance. Later, for fear of being discovered, a fake white pagoda was built in 1784 (the 49th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty). The Yangzhou salt merchants were very wealthy, but they were not from Yangzhou. Most of them were from Anhui.
Twenty-four Bridges at Slender West Lake: Du Mu's "Twenty-four Bridges on a Moonlit Night, Where Does the Jade Beauty Teach the Flute?"
The Twenty-Four Bridges are like a curved bow, and the tower of Lingqi Temple is like a sword. The method of borrowing scenery from gardens is used to place the tower somewhere else (Lingqi Temple) in the area of Slender West Lake. The Twenty-Four Bridges got its name because it has 24 steps and 24 railings on each side. In order to curry favor with Emperor Qianlong, the salt merchants of Yangzhou arranged beautiful women holding a musical instrument on each bridge. When Emperor Qianlong came to Yangzhou along the Grand Canal, he could hear the sound of the instruments played by the girls when he crossed the bridge by boat. One saying is that 24 is a general term, referring to the fact that Yangzhou has abundant water, many boats and many bridges. Another saying is that Emperor Yang of Sui gathered 24 beautiful ladies to play musical instruments and sing on the bridge.
