[2025 Wenzhou Attraction] Travel Guide for Dongtou Scenic Area (Updated Mar)

Dongtou District of Wenzhou City is one of the fourteen island counties (districts) in the country. Now it has become normal to drive to the island, taking the 228 National Road, passing through Lingni North Embankment and "Triple Jump" to reach the main island of Dongtou. Before the Spring Festival, it's the off-peak season for tourism. There are not many vehicles on the island, and the road is smooth. There are only traffic jams in front of the farmers' market during the shopping peak. The attractions are even more deserted. Dasha Ao and Paotai Mountain are being renovated, and only Xiandie Rock is open (half price for all tickets). There are few cars in the parking lot, and it's very comfortable to stroll around the scenic spots. Facing the sea, overlooking the Banpingshan Bridge, the view is wide and the mood is relaxed. The terrain of the Guanyin Temple section is steep and difficult to walk, but there are few people. After struggling to climb up, you can see the footprints of Guanyin and the golden body stone carvings. Then walk slowly along the slope, and you can see the sea lion and the mountain turtle leaving the scenic area from a distance. There used to be a sea-viewing plank road leading to Paotai Mountain and Dasha Ao, but now it's closed, so I didn't go down. Crossing the Banpingshan Bridge, park the car and enter the Banpingshan scenic area through the visitor center on the mountain (half price for all), and the scenic area is surprisingly exclusive. The cliffs of Banpingshan are steep, the waves are surging, and the sea waves hit the shore. The scenery changes with every step. Then go down the mountain through Niangniang Cave and leave the scenic area from the visitor center under the bridge by the sea. Go straight and return to the parking lot after the beach of Jiucailuo. Navigate to the Dongtou Pioneer Women's Militia Memorial Hall, which is about 10 minutes away (part of the mountain road). The red scenic spot is free, and we have the whole place to ourselves. The exhibition hall has three floors, which narrate the history of the Dongtou Revolution and the history of the Women's Militia. The movie "Haixia" was filmed based on the prototype of the first company commander, Wang Yuexia. Now the Women's Militia has 80 people, divided into basic emergency teams, sea defense alert teams, and public opinion guidance teams. They undertake the mission of "serving in peacetime, responding in emergencies, and fighting in wartime". There are other attractions in Dongtou, such as the Sea-viewing Tower, but I didn't have time to explore them in detail before I left the island and returned.

#chinatransit Wenzhou's visa-free transit policy means that foreigners can enter the country through Wenzhou's Longwan International Airport or Wenzhou Port (passenger transportation) without applying for a visa, and stay in transit within 240 hours. This policy was officially implemented by the National Immigration Administration on December 17, 2024. It aims to promote exchanges between Chinese citizens and foreign visitors and promote high-level opening up of China to the world. Applicable conditions and application process Applicable countries: This policy applies to foreigners from 54 countries such as Russia, Brazil, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. These visitors need to hold an ordinary passport and a connecting ticket with a date and seat to be determined within 240 hours. Application process: After arriving at Wenzhou Longwan International Airport or Wenzhou Port (passenger transportation), foreign vixitors are required to fill in a 240-hour transit visa exemption application card in the immigration waiting hall, and submit to the border inspection authority of the port of entry for a visa-free stay of not more than 240 hours. Transit visa-free application and, then, after the review is passed, visitors can clear customs and enter the country. Residence time and scope of activities Duration of stay: Foreign visitors can stay in Wenzhou for up to 240 hours (10 days). Scope of activities: During the stay, foreigners can travel across provinces and regions in the activity areas allowed to stay in the 24 provinces (districts, cities) that apply the transit visa-free policy. When leaving the country, you can exit from any of the 60 ports in the country that apply the transit visa exemption policy. Recommended tourist attractions in Wenzhou Yandang Mountain Scenic Area: Yandang Mountain is famous for its wonderful natural landscape and spectacular waterfalls. It is a paradise for photography and hiking enthusiasts. Nanxijiang Scenic Area: Nanxijiang attracts many tourists with its clear rivers and quaint villages. It is an ideal place to experience the combination of nature and humanities. Dongtou Scenic Area: Dongtou is known as the “Pearl of the East China Sea” for its beautiful scenery of 302 large and small islands. It is suitable for travelers who are passionate about island scenery.

You can climb up Wanghailou for a great view and enjoy the sea breeze; 🏵️Qicai Dongtou Village: A fishing village built next to a small hill with a walking trail, many homestays, and shops. It's very beautiful. Along the coastal road, there are many seafood stalls; 🌹Dong'ao Beach: Adjacent to Qicai Dongtou Village, it's a free beach with many people. You can take a speedboat ride, and there are many homestays and restaurants around; 💰Cost: Dongtou has many beaches, some free and some requiring tickets. I chose the free ones. Wanghailou ticket 💰30, Xiandieyan ticket 💰50, Banpingshan ticket 💰30, with a 3 yuan discount for online booking. Except for Xiandieyan which has a 5💰 parking fee, other attractions have a 💰10 parking fee. According to online information, the average cost of seafood stalls around Dongtou attractions is above 150💰 per person. We didn't eat at the attractions.

The fishing village is small, with houses built of stone. I glanced at it without stopping to get off; 3️⃣Wanghai Tower: Requires a separate ticket. You can climb up to Wanghai Tower for a great view and enjoy the sea breeze; 4️⃣Colorful Dongtou Village: A fishing village built against a small hillside, with a scenic trail inside, many homestays and shops, as well as native residents. It's beautiful, and along the coastal road side, there are seafood stalls; 5️⃣Dong'ao Beach: Adjacent to Colorful Dongtou Village, it's a free beach with a huge crowd. You can take a speedboat on the sea, and the surrounding area is full of homestays and restaurants; 6️⃣Sea Moon Dyke: A walkway extending into the sea where you can stroll and enjoy the sea breeze, with average playability; 7️⃣Banping Mountain: The parking lot was full, so I didn't get in. The route I drove from Rui'an to Dongtou Island, Dongtou has many small islands, if you want to go to a place with more concentrated attractions, you can navigate to Jiucayu Beach 2 Tour time: I personally recommend two days and one night, you can set off in the morning, check into the homestay at noon to drop off your luggage, and then go out to the scenic area 3 Accommodation: There is a homestay street near Jiucayu Beach, there are different types and different price homestays for selection, it is recommended to book the room you need online in advance 4 Attractions and routes: You can first go to the Sea Moon Embankment near Jiucayu (near Jiucayu Beach, a long sea bridge, very suitable for taking pictures) Huagang Bridge (Huagang Fishing Village), it is recommended to go at sunset→You can stroll around Dongtou city area→Wanghai Building (on the mountain, it is recommended to go during the day, you can see the whole Dongtou from the top) The arrow order does not represent the order, the above only represents some of the attractions I have been to, and there are also attractions such as "Little Erhai" and "Xian Die Rock" that are worth recommending. Wenzhou is a coastal city. Wenzhou is very large, and the attractions are quite scattered. It takes about an hour to go around here. I like to see the sea. The sea is so big, people's minds should be as big as the sea. Life is beautiful, happy every day. This is a well-known place. In the 1960s, the great man wrote a poem for the female militia, 'Chinese children have many aspirations, they do not love red clothes but love armed.' It comes from the deeds of the Dongtou Island female militia. The Beijing Film Studio shot the film 'Haixia' on location here, with Cai Ming playing the role of Little Haixia, in 1974. This is a free attraction. The scenery of Dongtou on a cloudy day is also very beautiful.
