Dresden, a city weathered by storms of history, was tragically destroyed by Allied bombing in 1945 during World War II. Its splendor and history were momentarily reduced to ashes. The city was rebuilt using original bricks salvaged from the rubble, staying as true to the original design as possible.
Yet, time hasn't erased the city's soul. From the Procession of Princes mural to the Zwinger Palace, and the breathtaking Green Vault (with very strict security and no photography allowed), every renovated street and resurrected black building stands as a tribute to history.
We highly recommend our hotel, Hotel Suitess (Pictures 16, 17, 18). It boasts a prime location directly facing the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) and is a mere two-minute walk from Dresden's largest Christmas market.

Dresden Christmas Market at night full of romance
🎄 Dresden Altmarkt Christmas Market - Romantic Night
Why go: The Altmarkt Christmas Market at night is the best place to enjoy the atmosphere of German Christmas with its fantastic Christmas lights and medieval architecture. You can enjoy colorful stalls, various food, and a romantic night stroll with a glass of Glühwein.
Disadvantage: It is popular, so it can be crowded with tourists at night, so it is better to visit early in the evening to avoid the crowds.

Christmas Market in Dresden, Germany
#EuropeanChristmas
The Dresden Christmas Market, also known as Striezelmarkt, is one of the oldest and most famous Christmas markets in Germany. It was first held in 1434 and has a history of over 500 years. The market is located in Altmarkt Square in the heart of Dresden.
Every year, the Striezelmarkt is filled with beautiful lights and decorations. There are giant Christmas trees, fresh Stollen factories, and Stollenfest, an annual celebration of giant Stollen, is one of the highlights of the market.
Dresden is the most beautiful Christmas market for us in Germany. It is ranked number one. If I have the chance, I want to go back for many days because the day I went, I arrived in the city at night. In the morning, the market was not open yet and I had to travel on. Even though I only got a little bit, I was still very impressed.
If anyone wants to visit a Christmas market in Germany, I recommend that you don't miss this place.

Magical Moments at the Dresden Christmas Market
#holidayseason
Step into a fairy tale at the Dresden Christmas Market, one of Germany’s oldest and most enchanting holiday traditions. Known as Striezelmarkt, this market dates back to 1434 and is the heart of Dresden’s festive celebrations, bringing Christmas cheer to life with every twinkling light.
Located in the historic city center, Striezelmarkt transforms into a winter wonderland where cobbled streets are lined with charming wooden stalls, each offering a treasure trove of unique gifts and festive treats. You’ll find hand-carved ornaments, intricate lacework, and cozy winter accessories, perfect for gifting or keeping as keepsakes.
The smell of mulled wine (Glühwein), roasted chestnuts, and gingerbread cookies fills the air, making it impossible to resist indulging in traditional Sachsenschmaus (Saxon delicacies). Don’t forget to try the iconic Dresden Stollen, a fruitcake stuffed with marzipan, which has been a local specialty for centuries.
Striezelmarkt also offers magical experiences for the whole family. Kids will love the carousel, the Santa Claus grotto, and the craft workshops, where they can make their own ornaments. Live music and choirs create a festive atmosphere, and the sight of the huge Christmas pyramid and sparkling lights adds to the charm.
A visit to the Dresden Christmas Market is more than just shopping—it’s about soaking in the centuries-old traditions, enjoying delicious treats, and creating lasting holiday memories in one of Germany’s most beautiful cities.
