In 1999, the 7,062-meter-long road, starting from Dongsi Shitiao Overpass in the east and ending at Guanyuan Overpass in the west, was widened to 28–33 meters, becoming one of the six main east-west roads in Beijing. For the sake of convenience, it is collectively referred to as "Ping'an Avenue," and Zhang Zizhong Road is a section of it. 1️⃣Former Site of the Qing Army and Navy Departments: Located at No. 3 Zhang Zizhong Road, Dongcheng District, Beijing, the former site of the Qing Army and Navy Departments was rebuilt in 1906 after the original Prince He's Palace and Chenggong Mansion were demolished. In 1910, the Qing Navy Department was added. The eastern part is now the International Department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the western part is the old campus of Renmin University of China. It is not currently open to the public. 2️⃣Princess Hejing Mansion: Located at No. 7 Zhang Zizhong Road, Dongcheng District, Beijing, Princess Hejing Mansion was built in 1747 and is now the Hejingfu Hotel. 🌟Highlights: The former site of the Ministry of the Army and Navy of the Qing Dynasty is located on Zhang Zizhong Road in Dongcheng District, Beijing. In 1906, the 32nd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, the original Prince He Mansion and other buildings were demolished and rebuilt as the Ministry of the Army of the Qing Dynasty. In 1910, the 36th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, the Ministry of the Navy of the Qing Dynasty was added. 👍Most recommended: The former site of the Ministry of the Army and Navy of the Qing Dynasty faces south. The site is a successful attempt by Chinese architects and craftsmen to incorporate Western architectural language into the cultural context of local architecture. It was designed by Chinese architect Shen Qi. The main building in the middle is a European classical-style gray brick building with three floors above the central hall and two floors on both sides and the wing buildings. The exterior eaves are connected by arched colonnades. The building is covered with exquisite brick carvings, and the doors, windows, ceilings, floors, and wainscoting are all made of high-quality wood and exquisitely carved, magnificent and spectacular, showing the European eclectic style. ❤Recommended reason: There is a pair of stone lions more than 3 meters high in front of the door, and a large brick-carved screen wall with a hanging mountain roof across the street. In the early years of the Republic of China, Yuan Shikai's presidential palace and the State Council were located here. From 1924 to 1926, it was the residence of the Duan Qirui government.
