Dunvegan Castle is a castle on the Isle of Skye on the west coast of Scotland. This is the seat of Macleod, the head of the Macleod family. Dunvegan Castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and has been the heart of the Macleod family for almost 800 years. The castle has many important family relics, the main ones being the Fairy Flag and the Dunvegan Cup. The Dunvegan Fairy Flag is the most precious and valuable property of the family. The fabric, once dyed yellow, is silk from the Middle East (Syria or Rhodes), and experts have confirmed it to be dated between the 4th and 7th centuries AD. Currently, visitors can tour the Castle and Highland estates, take a cruise on Dunvegan Lake to see seal colonies or fish, stay in the estate's farmhouse, and browse through the 4 shops. Activities in the area include walking, fishing, sightseeing, shopping, tours and more.
