[2025 Chiayi County Attraction] Travel Guide for Eryanping Trail (Updated Mar)

Alishan in Chiayi County has always been a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing, especially the cherry blossom king in the national park, which is breathtaking when in full bloom, but also very crowded. This time, we skipped this popular spot and went to two lesser-known secret spots for cherry blossom viewing. ✓ Shizhuo Cherry Blossom Trail Located between Shizhuo and Shizhuo, in addition to the Cherry Blossom Trail, there are also Cloud Trail, Tea Trail, Mist Trail, and Haze Trail. The Cherry Blossom Trail is only 130 meters long, planted with Showa cherry blossoms and mountain cherry blossoms. The blooming season is around late February. You can visit during the day to enjoy the flowers, and at night, it is also an excellent spot for viewing night cherry blossoms under the illuminated lights. ✓ Xiding Er Yanping Trail Enter from the 52.8k mark on Taiwan Route 18, passing through the gap between Xiding Mountain and Er Yanping Mountain. The trail offers excellent views, making it a great place to see the sea of clouds. Along the way, the tea fields and cherry blossoms are also major attractions. The mountain cherry blossoms in Er Yanping bloom earlier, around mid-February, making it a great place for a mountain hike and cherry blossom viewing, and to get some exercise.

Eryanping Trail is a relatively hidden trail that is located off the main mountain road. While this trail is less known as compared to the trails in the Alishan Recreation area where most visitors will go, there are still many who visit this off beaten track that offers amazing views of the sea of clouds and sunsets. There are various viewing platforms with great views of the sea of clouds and sunset. Do note that the sea of clouds are typically seen when the weather is cool such as in winter, and there has to be good weather for the sunset to happen. Tea plantations can be found along the way too. As Alishan is not the most accessible via public transport, this place is best visited via private transport. You may opt to stay in a homestay near the trail to make getting to the trail easier. Be careful when you are on the trails, as even though the trails are paved to make it easier for visitors, it can get dark after sunset.
