🚗💦 Wanaka to Haast: A Scenic Drive Through Lakes & Waterfalls
#favouriteitinerary
Take one of New Zealand’s most breathtaking road trips from Wanaka to Haast, where crystal-clear lakes, towering waterfalls, and rugged wilderness await.
Start by driving along the shores of Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka, with plenty of spots to stop and soak in the alpine beauty. As you enter the Haast Pass, the landscape transforms into lush rainforest, revealing stunning waterfalls like Fantail Falls and Thunder Creek Falls, both just a short walk from the road.
With its dramatic mountain views, untouched nature, and cascading waterfalls, this journey is a must for anyone exploring the West Coast’s wild beauty!

Super accessible Waterfall that looks like a fan!
#traveldiaries #newzealand
This waterfall that looks like a fan is located at Mount Aspiring National Park in New Zealand. To get access to the waterfall from the carpark is an easy 5 mins walk passing through silver beech forest. It is wheelchair-accessible and hence from this it is evident that the path is easy.
The waterfall gets its name - fantail falls because it spreads out into a fan shape at its base. Many people who come here to enjoy the scenery of the waterfall and crystal clear Haast River also do rock stacking, even on the broken tree trunks.
I would recommend this attraction to all walks of life as this is one of the most accessible waterfalls and involves only an easy short walk to the site in New Zealand!

At the same time, you can see the waterfall itself within two minutes of walking!
There are many flat stones on the ground
You can see many people stacking stones here.
It's really interesting, a bit like the Fu in Qixing Mountain, Hualien
‼ ️As we get closer to the west coast, the vegetation along the way becomes more and more like a tropical rainforest, and there are many biting insects!
