Located at the northern tip of Kyushu, Mojiko was an important trading port in the early days. As a result, the retro area is home to many Western-style commercial buildings from the early 20th century. Even the Mojiko Station hall is decorated in a quaint and beautiful style. The Mojiko Retro Area, which is right outside JR Mojiko Station, is a pleasant seaside area. Walking here feels like stepping into a different time and space. Key attractions include the Blue Wing pedestrian bridge that opens and closes at regular intervals, the Railway Museum, the Old Mitsui Club, the Former Moji Customs Building, and the Mojiko Observation Deck. The Mojiko Observation Deck ticket costs 300 yen. Although the view from the deck is not as dazzling as that of a bustling metropolis, the ticket is cheap, and you can still enjoy a cup of coffee up there. If it's mealtime, you must try the baked curry. The charred cheese paired with the rich curry is especially delicious. It was so good that I even bought a curry pack to take home. After visiting the retro area, a half-hour walk will take you to the Kanmon Bridge pedestrian underpass. The Kanmon Strait is the sea between Kyushu and Honshu. After crossing it, you will reach Shimonoseki in Honshu. Therefore, a 15-minute walk through the Kanmon Bridge pedestrian underpass allows you to experience the fun of traveling from Kyushu to Honshu. Just a short walk and you'll be there. 🍨 🍓 Fruit parfaits packed with fresh fruits straight from the fruit shop! This cafe is directly managed by the fruit shop, so each menu is packed with fresh seasonal fruits, cut into bite-sized pieces and served with ice cream, cookies, and jelly that are so delicious you'll want to go back for more. 🍧 Signature menu Strawberry Parfait is sweet and refreshing, starting at 2,000 yen, or just order ice cream for only 400 yen. There's also a Deluxe with 7 seasonal fruits, such as Kyoho grapes and melons, which change with the season. 🍽️ The atmosphere of the shop is so cute it'll melt your heart. The shop is decorated in a clean white tone with a fragrant fruity aroma. 🌉🌊 The highlight is the view from the window seats, which is also very beautiful. You can see the sea and the drawbridge. It's so mellow. But it takes a while to make. #Spring0yenTrip 📍Old Moji Customs House There are many beautiful red brick buildings in Mojiko Retro, but this one is particularly eye-catching ✨ This red brick building, built in 1912, was used as a customs house from the Meiji period to the early Showa period. It seems you can view the inside for free, so I went in. In the early Showa period, Moji Port was a hub of Japanese trade. As economic development shifted, Moji Port lost its bustling charm. The remaining Taisho and Showa-era Western-style buildings and streets give Moji Port a nostalgic filter. The old Moji Mitsui Club, the customs house, and the Blue Wing Bridge, which opens and closes six times a day, all showcase the splendor of this small town in northern Kyushu during the 19th century. As an important banana transshipment port back then, the adorable banana man sculptures along the port commemorate this history.
