Hu Xueyan’s Former Residence is a beautiful place to visit for its stunning Chinese architecture and garden composed of zigzag bridges, luxurious mansions and elegant pavilions. The karst cave in the garden is deemed as the largest manmade in China. Lush green plants, beautiful flowers and fish in the pools make the garden such a charming place! Hu Xueyan was a successful merchant during the Qing Dynasty. Big brain and hardworking, his business was expanded in various fields such as silk,medicine and real estate. He also had a high position in Hangzhou’s civil and financial administration. HuqingYutang, his traditional Chinese medicine shop is still operating nowadays in Hefang Street, not too far from the his Former Residence. Entrance 🎟- 20¥ How to go - I got off at Ding’an Road (定安路地铁站）line 1 metro 🚇 station and walked to the entrance for about 15 mins. If you don’t want to walk, you can easily grab a Hello Bike near the station and cycle to the entrance. Check the way on your maps. Before I came, I heard that Hu Xueyans former residence had the largest false mountain cave in China. Seeing the small hole between the rockery in the picture below, I mistakenly thought that it was the legendary cave. How to see how small it feels pitiful. Haha, I am making a joke! This is a rockery, there is no cave. The legendary cave is in the garden.

There are trails on the side of the pool that lead directly to the rockery. There is a small hole under the rockery, and it is a legendary rock cave. The space inside the cave was very wide, because it was too dark and the ground was relatively slippery, so I didn't go any further.

Hu Xueyans former residence has a ticket office at the back door of the front door, and all can go in, but if you buy a network ticket, you must enter from the main entrance. From the main entrance, there is a model map of the former residence of Hu Xueyan, and the TV on the wall also plays a simple introduction to the former residence. If there is enough time, it is recommended to listen to the introduction and then go shopping is more targeted.
