Dinner Time: Fuji on a Plate at Tempura Idaten
After a full day of chasing views and finally seeing Mt. Fuji in all her glory, we ended our day with something equally iconic — a Mt. Fuji-shaped tempura meal at Tempura Idaten.
Yes, really. A meal shaped like the mountain.
The restaurant was warm, welcoming, and tucked away with just the right amount of local charm. We ordered their signature set, which came beautifully presented: a towering mound of kakiage tempura, crispy and golden, built high to mimic Mt. Fuji’s peak. On the side: dipping sauce, rice, pickles, and miso soup — a full, satisfying tray.
The tempura was light and flavorful, with thin-sliced vegetables and seafood packed into every bite. Crunchy on the outside, tender inside — and so perfectly balanced you forget it’s deep-fried. And yes, we may have paused for a mini photoshoot before digging in. The resemblance to Fuji was too good to ignore.
After a long day of stair climbing, shrine visits, and chasing clouds, this was comfort food perfection.
Tips:
1. The restaurant can get busy during dinner hours — go early or be ready to wait a bit.
2. Their Fuji mountain tempura is a must-try — fun, filling, and very photogenic.
3. Cash is preferred; check for card availability.
4. A great spot to relax and reflect after a day of exploring Fujiyoshida.
