Recently, I traveled to Fukui Prefecture over the course of two days. Although it was a short trip, I was able to fully enjoy the tourist spots, history, and gourmet food. Day 1: A Journey of History and Nature I departed from Haneda Airport on a 7:25 AM flight and arrived at Komatsu Airport at 8:25 AM. The first destination was 'Komatsu no Mori.' Here, I got to see huge construction machinery up close, feeling like a kid again. After that, I headed to 'Tojinbo,' where I enjoyed the stunning views of the cliffs and the expansive blue Sea of Japan from around 11 AM. After lunch, I visited 'Maruoka Castle.' The imposing presence of the oldest existing castle keep in Japan was impressive. In the afternoon, I visited 'Eiheiji Temple' and the 'Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins.' The serene atmosphere of Eiheiji and the historical romance of the Asakura Clan Ruins made for a fulfilling day. Day 2: A Journey of Gardens and Dinosaurs The second day started at 'Yokokan Garden.' The tranquility of the beautiful Japanese garden was soothing. After that, I enjoyed the spectacular view from 'Echizen Ono Castle.' For lunch, I had Fukui's specialty, sauce katsudon, at 'Nomura-ya Shokudo.' In the afternoon, I visited the 'Echizen Daibutsu' and finally the 'Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum.' The impressive dinosaur exhibits were thrilling and enjoyable even for adults. Throughout the two days, I was able to fully savor the charms of Fukui Prefecture. Reservations are required for entry!! The restaurant inside the museum closes reservations for the day once the numbered tickets have been distributed. You can re-enter with your ticket stub, so there is no limit to the number of items sold at the souvenir shop and restaurant just before the entrance. I took the Thunderbird Express to Fukui Prefecture using the [Dice Ticket] sold by JR West 🦕 It was my first time going to Fukui Prefecture, and I got tons of dinosaurs 🦖 I expected the Dinosaur Museum to be crowded during the Obon period, but it didn't seem that bad around 2pm on 8/11...? I didn't know this city at first, but when I got the pass, I looked for some information about what I could do there. When I found out that there was a dinosaur museum that was ranked in the top 5 in the world, I immediately rescheduled my time because my son liked it (and I did too). 😁 Traveling by train is like in Japanese cartoons, when you take a local train and see rice fields and towns like in the countryside. When you get there, you'll be amazed by the atmosphere around the museum. It's like being in a valley, the air is cool, the leaves are starting to change color (in October), and there's fog in the evening. The museum is also good, not very big, but complete, and many dinosaurs move and make realistic sounds. The atmosphere in the dome is realistic, making it look magical. In conclusion, I'm glad I came, but it took a long time. I had to take the train and then the bus. It took 1.5 hours from Fukui Station. It's a trip to rest my legs, change the atmosphere, and gain more experience for my son. 😆

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is a natural history museum with a dinosaur theme located in Nagaoyama General Park in Muraoka-cho, Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture. This year, the new building opened, so I revisited it. The main building has 50 full dinosaur skeletons, which is very impressive!
