The former site of Fukuoka Castle is in Maizuru Park. It was built in 1601 by Kuroda Nagamasa, the lord of Fukuoka domain. As the first military commander from the Toyotomi faction to fall to the Tokugawa faction, he made great contributions in the Battle of Sekigahara and was named Lord of Chikuzen 520,000 stones. It took him 7 years to build Fukuoka Castle. During the Meiji Restoration, after the decree to abolish the city was issued, most of Fukuoka Castle was demolished, and only the Tamon Tower (Picture 4⃣️) was completely preserved.
