Haining actually has such a modern historical district
This Spring Festival, I came to Haining Jiaxing with my family to celebrate the New Year. In addition to seeing the Haining tide, I discovered while walking around the city that Haining has a very profound cultural heritage. This is the case with the Ganhe Street Historical and Cultural District that we visited this time.
📍Detailed address:
Ganhe Street Historical and Cultural District is located in the center of Haining City, which is the real city center. Next to it is Xishan Park and Haining People's Square Aegean Shopping Center.
🌟Highlights:
As soon as you walk into this historic district, you can feel that it is completely different from other places. The overall feeling is that we have been transported to the 1930s. The architectural style is more European, with a sense of combining Chinese and Western elements. In order to let people feel the historical atmosphere, there are many sculptures in the historical district. At the same time, since there is Xu Zhimo’s former residence here, you can also feel the modern culture of that era from the details everywhere.
👍Most Recommended:
When you come to Ganhe Street Historical and Cultural District, you must visit Xu Zhimo’s former residence on the street, which is open to the public free of charge. You can also take photos on the street. From cinemas to cafes, all the buildings maintain the style of that era. It has a retro modern feel.
📝Note tips:
It is also very convenient to eat here. There are KFC and Pizza Hut at the corner of the street. There are also many restaurants to choose from in the Aegean Shopping Center opposite Haining People's Square. Very convenient.

1️⃣Haining Leather City
A must-see in Haining! It's almost New Year, just in time to prepare some New Year gifts for your parents. I went to the Snow Leopard leather store and they even prepared coffee and tea for us, very thoughtful ~ Don't forget to check in at the Haining check-in wall at the entrance of Snow Leopard before you leave.
2️⃣Haining Museum
The museum is the best place to learn about a city ~ Highly recommend the Xiashi Lantern Hall on the second floor, each exhibit is very exquisite, perfect for taking photos.
3️⃣Ganhe Street Historic District - Former Residence of Xu Zhimo
It was originally the most prosperous political, economic and cultural center in Haining, known as "Little Shanghai", with many well-preserved ancient buildings and former residences of celebrities, including the former residence of Xu Zhimo.
4️⃣Hengtou Street Historic District
A cultural and commercial street that blends ancient and modern, known as the "Taikoo Li" of Haining, with pavilions and towers, a view at every step, full of Jiangnan charm.
5️⃣China Silk Third Factory
A creative park transformed from an old factory building, the red brick walls are very artistic for taking photos.
6️⃣Nanguanxiang Historic District
Bluestone road, white walls and black tiles, a group of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties built along the river. It looks even better when the lights are on at night, and there is also a Xiashi Lantern Hall to visit.

Haining Ganhe Street Historical and Cultural Block, Zhejiang
Haining Ganhe Street is an old street full of history and stories. It has witnessed the vicissitudes of Haining and carries the deep emotions and memories of generations of Haining people. Ganhe Street was once the central area of Xiashi Town, integrating politics, economy, and culture, and was known as "Little Shanghai." The shops on both sides of the street are lined up in a row, each with its own characteristics. The dense French plane trees and bronze statues on the street add a quiet and elegant atmosphere.
The history of Ganhe Street can be traced back to the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. It was originally a river called Tonghui River, which gradually formed a street due to the riverbed being filled with silt. In 1936, it was already known as Ganhe Street. At that time, there were folk organizations such as the Silk Industry Office, the Security Regiment, and the Soy Sauce Office, as well as financial institutions such as the Xiashi Office of the Bank of China, as well as cultural and entertainment venues such as the Xiashi Grand Theater and the Lianyou Bookstore. It was the most concentrated and prosperous area of Haining culture and commerce.
Ganhe Street is not only an ancient street, but also a living history book, waiting for us to read it carefully. Walking in the streets and alleys, it seems that you can hear the echoes of history, and every place is full of warm memories of the old Xiashi people. Today, Ganhe Street is famous for Xu Zhimo, and Xu Zhimo's former residence has become a popular tourist attraction, attracting a large number of tourists to visit.
