Natural scenery
Glen Canyon Dam is the second largest dam in the United States. It was built by the old General Glen and towers over the Glen Canyon. Its 216-meter-high arc-shaped dam body forms a stunning contrast with the ochre-red sandstone canyon. Glen Canyon Dam has a significant impact on the control of water resources in the western United States. The interactive model at the visitor center shows how the dam regulates the flow of the Colorado River and provides electricity to seven states. The dam can be visited inside, and the inner wall of the tunnel still retains the texture of the wooden formwork when it was poured. The observation deck on the top of the dam has a wide view, overlooking the emerald winding waterway of Lake Powell to the east and the spectacular U-shaped canyon of Horseshoe Bend to the west. The sun casts the shadow of the dam body on the canyon rock wall, forming a light and shadow theater that changes with time. The adjacent Carl Bowen Trail has a geological interpretation sign that reveals the dinosaur footprint fossil layer found during the construction of the dam. As a model of the symbiosis of water conservancy projects and natural wonders, this place witnesses the power and limitations of human transformation of nature.
