Family of three traveled from Chiang Mai, flying directly to Osaka. They explored Osaka and Kyoto, attended the Expo for 1 night and 2 days, and stayed at the Holiday Inn Osaka Namba, which offers luggage storage. After enjoying their time, they took a night bus to Fuji Kawaguchiko, where they stayed at Haostay Hotel for 1 night and 2 days, enjoying views of Mount Fuji from their room. Next, they took the Shinkansen to Tokyo and checked into Mystays Gotanda Station Hotel, which had nice rooms, for a 3-night stay. They spent their days exploring Tokyo and then flew back to Osaka, staying at Hotel Odysis Suite Osaka Airport. The hotel provided airport shuttle service and had comfortable rooms. They rested there before catching an early flight back to Chiang Mai. It was exhausting but incredibly fun!

Day 1: Embracing the Grandeur and Fantasy of the City The sky over Tokyo is always so vast. My first stop is the life-sized Godzilla head sculpture in Shinjuku. This gigantic Godzilla statue, standing in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, seems to embody the power of the entire city, with its head peeking out from the top of a skyscraper, its sharp gaze overlooking the bustling surroundings. Standing under the statue, one feels the awe of being surrounded by a giant monster, inevitably recalling those classic movie scenes. This place is not only a paradise for movie enthusiasts but also a landmark of the busy commercial area of Shinjuku, perfectly blending reality and fantasy. At sunset, the statue's shadow casts over the busy streets, showcasing the city's charm everywhere. Day 2: Intertwined Lights and Shadows of the Urban Nightscape Leaving the Godzilla statue, I head to Kabukicho in Shinjuku. The nights here are always so lively, with various neon lights flashing and people coming and going on the streets, as if in a movie scene. Kabukicho is not just Tokyo's entertainment center; it's also a place full of wonderful stories. Every alley and every small shop hides the secrets of this city. Walking through the night, the lights at the street corners reflect the prosperity and charm of this city, making one stop and savor it. This night, every corner of the city exudes enchanting light, whether it's the giant shadow of Godzilla or the street lights, perfectly presenting the essence of this city.

Just back from my third Japan trip (will share in a later post) however this got me reminiscing about my first time going to Japan. I’m the typical tourist influenced by Japanese culture. Therefore I chose to go Japan after saving up enough from my paycheques 😂 + I saw that the Yokohama Gundam factory was going to close down, so FOMO me booked a trip immediately!!! To summarise, I was excited, but also terrified because I had no idea how to travel Surprisingly, things were pretty simple, because the signs were in different languages. For my first time here, I did what I would think of as the “Tourist bare minimum” which is to go to the sightseeing points that everybody is listing down online. I would say it’s a safe way to explore, especially when you don’t know a lot about how things work in another country. PLACES I WENT - Shinjuku (Kabuki-cho tower, ToHo cinemas - Godzilla head) - Shibuya (Scramble, 109, Donki) - Tokyo (Tokyo train station) - Mount Fuji - Kamakura - Yokohama (Gundam factory) I would suggest renting bicycles or scooters, especially in areas outside of the city because there is a lot of walking involved and waiting of buses. But do know that if you are renting in high human traffic areas, it will be a hassle to the locals as well as other pedestrians ESSENTIALS: - Power Bank - Google maps - CASH - Physical credit/ debit - Suica (in Apple wallet or physical ones) Everyone advises that cash must be brought around everywhere because not all the businesses except cards. This is very true. #TokyoHotel Godzilla Hotel is a must-stay in Tokyo every time. The price is slightly higher than nearby hotels. The Kabukicho below is colorful and completely different from other places in Japan. If you like quiet and clean, this may not be a good choice.

#TravelWithMe This is the old Kabukicho Central Road, which runs from the Kabukicho intersection on Yasukuni-dori to the Shinjuku Toho Building in front. You can see the Godzilla head on top of the Shinjuku Toho Building, making it a great photo spot. It's a popular spot for foreign visitors to Japan, and there's always someone taking photos with the Godzilla head.

#TravelWithMe This Godzilla head was created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Godzilla's birth. It is a giant Godzilla head object installed on the outdoor terrace on the 8th floor of the Shinjuku Toho Building, which opened in 2015 in Shinjuku Kabukicho. It is 12m in size and stands about 40m above the ground, making it the same size as Godzilla in the first movie, and very impressive.

This is seriously one of the coolest tourist attractions we saw in Japan, and it was completely free! So there are actually two ways to enjoy this and it is daily from 12pm-8pm. 1: Go to Hotel Gracery and take the elevator up! As soon as you get off the elevator you will see a smaller version of Godzilla to take pictures with as well as all of the movie posters with Godzilla in it. Then make your way to the terrace and you can go see the legend himself. It is enormous, and there are some really spots to get photos here. There are some décor pieces and descriptive plaques around too. You can even touch part of him through a small opening - definitely do this. 2: stand in front of the Hotel on Central Road and when it is time (every hour) you will hear the iconic music play on loud speakers! This is a great time to see Godzilla from a far and shoot his atomic breathe! Once again, this is one of the coolest things to do in Japan, and you should not miss it if you are a Gojira/Godzilla fan! In 2024 I wish to visit this place again. #2024wish

The Godzilla Hotel in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, Tokyo is a good choice. The hotel is located in the center of Kabukicho and is only ten minutes away from Shinjuku Station, which is very convenient. There are many shops in Kabukicho where you can eat, play and shop. Everything you need. The hotel has complete facilities. Although the rooms are small, they are very clean and the bathrooms offer a bath to eliminate the fatigue of a day's journey. Therefore, it is a worthy choice for couples to relax and vacation.
