These include the Green Island Lighthouse, Green Island Park, General Rock, Gateway Rock, Guanyin Cave, Youzi Lake, Pekingese Dog Rocks, Sleeping Beauty Rock, Sail Cape, Black Ghost Cave, and the rare Zhaori Saltwater hot spring. Day 1: Depart from Taitung Train Station and take a shuttle bus to Taitung Fishing Port, where a 50-minute boat ride will take you to Green Island Fishing Port. After disembarking, I rented a motorcycle or electric scooter from a nearby rental shop. Those with an international driving license can rent a motorcycle, and those without can rent an electric scooter. The cost is 400 Taiwan dollars per day for a motorcycle and 600 Taiwan dollars per day for an electric scooter. After renting a scooter, you can go straight to the hotel to check in and then start your first day on Green Island. On the first day, you can drive around the island to get a feel for the surroundings. Then, discover some special spots on the map. It is recommended that on the first day I go snorkeling or to the only beach on Green Island, Great White Shark, to touch the water, and then sit by the sea to listen to the waves. There is a coffee shop called Pure with a very nice decor, and you can see the waves directly from inside the shop, where you can spend an afternoon. In the evening, you can find food on the busiest street in Green Island. Day 2: On the second day, it is recommended to go deep diving for about $2500 per person, including one air tank. If you have a diving certificate, you can contact a coach directly, which will be cheaper. There are generally three diving spots on Green Island, mainly depending on the wind direction. If you go deep diving in the morning, in the afternoon you can choose to participate in the Green Island Blue Secret Realm, where you can dive into the water, and the water quality is very clear, making it a fun afternoon activity. In the evening, you can try the sashimi and braised snacks, as well as clam soup at Lin's Snacks in Green Island, which is very delicious and affordable. Day 3: On the third day, you can go to a place called Bull Horn Mountain on the mountain to enjoy the beautiful scenery, and then to a Guanyin Cave on the mountain to pray for blessings. After praying, you can go to a more secluded place in Green Island to a restaurant called No Man's Island, where the taco rice and grilled meat udon are very delicious. After finishing lunch, you can return to Green Island Fishing Port and head back to Taichung to prepare for your next trip.

Very chill place to go with friends and escape from city life.

Green Island was an incredible place to visit. There’s snorkelling, scuba and free diving available all across the island. Having a scooter is pretty essential to get around, but the roads are quite safe and people drive carefully. There’s nice restaurants around the island and a couple of nice bars. For diving, if you don’t speak Chinese I recommend going to Airplane Mode, which has great staff. One thing I missed was the hot springs, where you can arrive early and watch the sunrise from the springs.

I want to share about my second trip this year—the diving journey to Taiwan's Green Island! Our group of nine set off from Hong Kong, flew to Kaohsiung for a short stay overnight, and then took a reserved van for a 3-hour ride to the pier the next morning, followed by a 45-minute ferry ride to Green Island without any incidents. We first rented electric scooters with low horsepower and then headed straight to the homestay we booked. The scenery along the way was beautiful, and seeing the crystal-clear sea made us cheerful! Upon arriving at the homestay and getting settled, we donned our gear and started shore diving warm-ups with the diving instructor. Once underwater, it felt like being in a giant fish tank, with schools of fish swimming by, and soon we were fortunate enough to see the Green Island sea turtles! In the following days, we continuously did shore and boat dives at many beautiful spots. After several days of diving, we rode our scooters around Green Island, soaked in the must-visit Chaori hot spring for sunrise, and ended the trip with a night visit to the Liuhe Night Market 😍😍

Scuba diving, Green Island Taiwan. I have always wanted to try scuba diving but I have never found somewhere I felt comfortable enough to do it, so I’m really happy I came to Green Island. We stayed in the Relax Chamber b&b who had onsite dive instructors, you are able to dive with them one on one after training and it is a life changing experience. Most places I have seen scuba in places like Thailand it is group sessions or crazy prices for one on one, here it is roughly $50 for a one on one session with full photos and videos during. You get training on the gear and a full fitting session to make sure everything you are wearing and using is right for your shape and size, the dive instructors are fully licensed and have experience diving all over the world. My instructor was fluent in English and was really supportive when I initially got int he water, letting me float on the surface and test the breathing equipment until I was ready to dive. You dive to a depth of 12 meters and your instructor will check every meter if you are ready to go deeper, reminding you to clear your ears and check your mask as you go deeper. Under the water there are stunning reefs as far as the eye can see and a crazy amount of fish, there were fish of all shapes, colours and sizes and at times you are completely surrounding by entire schools of fish. A highlight for me was seeing turtles in the distance and within the rocks, and waiting long enough for one to swim so close to me I could see every detail of it’s face. It was such a surreal experience and I immediately paid to do it again the next day, my instructor took me to another place to dive this time and helped me explore the reef hunting for as many different fish as possible. I would 100% recommend this as a dive location and I will be going back as soon as I can to get my licence! Green island is a small volcanic island off the South East coast of Taiwan, it’s famous for it’s scuba diving and it’s long history as a penal colony during Taiwan’s troubled political history. You can get to the island via plane or ferry from Taitung, the ferry is every hour and has a huge capacity so it is the easiest option, the flights are on small planes and very limited times. The ferry crossing takes about an hour and there is a dedicated terminal in Taitung to get tickets, however you can only buy tickets online or within an hour of departure. So if you get to the terminal a while before a boat you have to wait to be able to buy tickets, also the queing system on the dock is quite chaotic so double check you are in the right line for the right boat - a few companies run the same route at similar times. On the island trasnprot links are pretty much non existent so everyone hires scooter, they accept most forms of international driving licenses and fuel is very cheap! Be careful on the roads especially in the dark, there are a lot of potholes and cracks so make sure you have a helmet and insurance! Most people head to the island for scuba diving and most of the hotels or B&B’s have on site scuba instructors, you can pay by the hour for lessons or you can hire equipment on the island if you have your diving licence. As for food and drink, there is a 7/11 and a family mart in the main strip by the port, after that is is coffee shops and restaurants scattered around the island. Top tip is to research the opening times on the day, lots of places open for breakfast and again for dinner - many are closed between 11-4 so it’s hard to find lunch sometimes! There is a fascinating human rights museum in the old prison used to hold political prisoners between the 1960’s and 1990’s it is free to get into and has some really interesting exhibitions about the legacy of the prison.
