In Shenzhen, I visited all the shopping malls big and small along the subway line. I got tired of them, so I started exploring other attractions. Let’s just take a look at the history and ancient buildings. I went to Gankeng before, and this time I came to Nantou Ancient Town.
Walking from the subway station, you will first see the Guandi Temple, which is full of Lingnan architectural features, and then follow the tree-lined avenue to reach the South Gate entrance. There are many restaurants here, and there are many coffee shops in the streets and alleys. There are no well-known brands here, but there are many specialty shops, some selling crystal, some selling solid wood products and coffee cups/tea sets, some selling minerals, some selling *handmade fine chocolate, some selling vinyl records... These small shops are rarely seen in shopping malls, and they are worth a visit.
There are many old buildings and small special exhibition halls in the city, some of which show maps, some about the history of Shenzhen and Hong Kong... They are scattered in different places in the neighborhood. If you are interested, you can go in and visit them. They are all free.
The area is a pedestrian zone and there are no motorcycles passing through, so it is very fun to visit. Come to this place that combines historical sites and cultural creativity and spend a pleasant weekend!
Traffic Information:
Take Metro Line 1 to Taoyuan Station and transfer to Line 12 (towards Songgang), go 1 station to Nantou Ancient Town Station, exit C and walk straight for about 4 minutes
*In the handmade boutique chocolate shop, most of the chocolates are not available for tasting (understandably, after all, the cost is high), but the staff welcomes customers to buy a small piece or one or two. If you are interested, you can spend a few dollars to buy a little bit and make a decision after trying it.
