The Taipei Sheraton Hotel's "Qingke Lou" has won two Michelin stars for three consecutive years. Its signature side dishes break the impression that five-star hotels are expensive. Unlike traditional five-star hotels or high-end restaurants that use main dishes as a selling point, smart side dishes can make you enjoy noble and inexpensive Michelin cuisine. It's usually hard to get a seat, but this time I finally got to eat at the Qingkelou. This time I ordered shredded tofu, whispers, red yeast rice, truffle vegetarian goose, peas and blue shrimp, pickled pepper preserved eggs, and sesame oil chicken rice. It's great value for money and very tasty. 📍Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel (台北喜来登大飯店) No. 12, Section 1, Zhongxiao E Rd, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan 100 【Reliable Choice from the Marriott Group】 I chose this hotel because, unlike my usual solo trips, I was traveling with my mother who was celebrating her 60th birthday. She wanted a place with a certain level of service, facilities, and brand recognition for peace of mind, so this was our pick. 😋 There are several Marriott properties in Taipei, but we opted for the Sheraton due to its long-standing reputation. Highlights: ⭐︎ Check-in was available in Japanese ⭐︎ Twin beds could be selected in advance (double beds are often the default overseas) ⭐︎ About a 10-minute walk from Taipei Main Station ⭐︎ The nearest station, Shandao Temple Station, is just steps away from the exit ⭐︎ Clean shower and bathroom facilities ⭐︎ Toilets equipped with bidets ⚠️ Note: In recent years, due to sustainability efforts, hotels in Taipei have completely eliminated amenities like toothbrushes. Sheraton was no exception, so we had to purchase a toothbrush set at a nearby convenience store. 🥲 If you’re a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, you might enjoy perks like complimentary breakfast, but as a Gold member, I only had access to late check-out. With a return flight around 4 PM, being able to stay at the hotel until 2 PM was very convenient. 🥰 The hotel’s restaurants are quite renowned, with lines forming even before they open. If you want to enjoy authentic Taiwanese or Chinese cuisine beyond street food, this could be a great option. While we didn’t opt for breakfast at the hotel, Taiwan’s morning street food scene is vibrant. The famous Fu Hang Soy Milk shop was just a 10-minute walk away, so we lined up early in the morning. Since the shop was crowded and not very relaxing, we brought the food back to the hotel to eat. The staff kindly lent us spoons and other utensils. This led to a pattern of taking out street food and enjoying it in the comfort of our room. The hotel isn’t overly luxurious, but it offers a cozy and reassuring atmosphere. My mother was very satisfied. While it might feel a bit pricey for solo travelers and isn’t the trendiest option, it’s perfect for family trips. 🧑🧑🧒🧒

One-star Qingkelou x One-star Xujiacai: one dish, one style, hundreds of dishes, hundreds of flavors The Qingkelou in Sichuan and Yangzhou was previously famous for its Yangzhou cuisine. Recently, we invited Xu Fan from Xujiacai, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Chengdu, Sichuan, to be our guest chef with his entire team. This guest spot is presented in a limited time menu in à la carte format. The dishes are very tasty, spicy Sichuan cuisine is paired with tea, a perfect match, and the live Chinese piano performance is antique and elegant.

Fish maw casserole with chicken, thick chicken soup and crispy fish maw, the combination is really a perfect match. Applewood smoked beef ribs are something you can’t usually make at home. They are naturally full of flavor and have an apple aroma that is truly something you can’t stop praising.  Worth another visit
