I really like this one not only for the historical aesthetic it brings to Macau, but also for a relaxing (maybe contented) feeling I got today from just sitting and looking at it. It wasn’t easy too because some young people - I mean like people in 30’s - were doing a major selfie thing all around it, acting foolish, or really maybe just having a good time. It seemed like for an hour or so too. Wish I was them. You know, I don’t really want people I don’t know in the pictures I take - know what I mean Sĩ - so I waited them out. And I still felt good coming here despite them, and ultimately I did take my pics. Hey that’s a really old church next to it; I guess you can see that yourself from the cross. They won’t let you take pictures inside, but you can see some really old drawings on the walls that are almost faded out.

There is a small hill on the east side of the Macau Peninsula called Guia Hill. The peak is the highest point on the peninsula, and you can look east to the Pearl River Estuary. In 1622, the Portuguese built a fort here called Guia Fort, installed a cannon, and guarded the ships entering and leaving the outer port of Macau. They also built a small church next to it, dedicated to the "Our Lady of the Snow." The lighthouse above was not completed until 1865 and was the first modern lighthouse in the Far East. It is 15 meters high, with a tower diameter of 7 meters at the bottom and 5 meters at the top. It has three floors, and the top floor is a searchlight and observation deck, which can guide ships 20 kilometers away. During the typhoon season, it can also hang iron fences of different shapes to tell everyone the level of the typhoon. A beautiful lighthouse also bears witness to the historical changes of the past century and a half.

#OctoberGoodDestinations2024 Since I was a child, I would go to Macau with my family every year. This time I would like to introduce the old town of Macau Island. Walking in the old town, you will still see many buildings from different eras. It is very convenient to travel from Hong Kong to Macau. It only takes more than an hour by boat or via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. As the weather was very good that day, as soon as we arrived in Macau, we went to the Guia Fortress (including the lighthouse and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Snows) to see the scenery of Macau. This is one of my favorite places to go because it's not too high up and can be reached by taking a short slope and some stairs. If you go there on weekdays, there won't be many people there and you can take photos as you like. The lighthouse has many features, but my favorite is that the building is white and yellow, full of European style and very beautiful for taking photos. The temple sanctuary is open to visitors, and you can look at the murals on the walls, but you are not allowed to take photos. In addition, the lighthouse still provides wind speed reports. Because it was very windy that day, the staff hung a black ball. You may ask what hanging a black ball means. It is a signal that a monsoon wind of more than 41 kilometers per hour was recorded. If there is a wind ball, the staff will change to a different wind ball signal. You can also take photos of the wind ball signal up close, which is also quite special. Afterwards, we walked down to Tap Seac Square, where there are many Portuguese cultural buildings, including the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building, the Macau Central Library, the Macau Art Center, etc. It is connected to the Holland Garden, where you can take photos or go in for a visit. Turn left there and walk towards Three Lights, where you will find different coffee shops and fashion stores. You can go shopping there if you have time.
