'Gumu' means hole or cave in old times, and 'so' means puddle in Chinese characters. It is also called 'Turunae' because the river flows through the mountain. In the 'Sejong Sillok Jiriji' and 'Daedongyeojido', it is recorded as 'Cheoncheon (穿川)', meaning a river with a hole. Gumunso is where Hwangjicheon and Cheoramcheon meet. The two waterways of Hwangjicheon and Cheoramcheon met an underground cave and gradually widened the cave, creating a cave-like terrain on the ground. Looking at the unique terrain of Gumunso, you can see how the terrain of the Korean Peninsula was formed 500 million years ago. Taebaek Goomunso Goomunso might not be a famous tourist spot, but it's surprisingly popular among photographers! The Paleozoic strata and erosion landforms here are designated as Natural Monument No. 417, recognized for their cultural value. It's worth stopping by even if you're just passing through! Even if you don't understand its significance, the deep blue water and naturally formed cave-like tunnel evoke a sense of nature's mystery, which kids find fascinating! There's a photo zone in front, making it a great spot for pictures with the background. On a good day, it's beautiful to capture with the clouds, so I highly recommend it!
