The Hall of Supreme Harmony is the highest palace in the Forbidden City, which is what the people call the "Golden Throne Hall" in the imperial palace. The hall is located on a three-story white marble platform. It is decorated with thousands of golden dragon patterns inside and outside. There are 10 ridge beasts on the corners of the roof. The floor of the hall is paved with golden bricks. On the seven-story high steps in the hall, there is an exquisite golden lacquer throne with cloud dragon patterns on it. A plaque with the words "Building the Extreme and Sui You" is hung on the throne. The Hall of Supreme Harmony is the highest-standard ancient building in existence, and it is the only one of its kind. It is the essence of ancient Chinese palace architecture and the largest existing wooden structure hall in China. The Hall of Supreme Harmony was first built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty and was originally called the Fengtian Hall. It was renamed the Huangji Hall during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. After the Manchus entered Beijing, it was renamed the Hall of Supreme Harmony, which contains the wish for world harmony. The current Hall of Supreme Harmony was rebuilt and preserved during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. The Hall of Supreme Harmony stands in the center of the Forbidden City. It is the main hall of the three major halls of the previous dynasty and the center of the Forbidden City. Nowadays, many people believe that the emperor usually held court in the Hall of Supreme Harmony, but in fact, the Hall of Supreme Harmony was rarely opened. It was only used for major ceremonies, such as the emperor's enthronement, the emperor's wedding, the empress's appointment, and the ordering of generals to go to war. In addition, on the three major festivals of the Emperor's Birthday, New Year's Day, and Winter Solstice, the emperor would accept congratulations from civil and military officials in the Hall of Supreme Harmony and give banquets to princes and ministers. The places where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties held court were mainly Taihemen, Qianqingmen, Qianqing Palace, and Yangxindian, not Taihemen.
