The Ohara Art Museum was established in 1930 by Kurashiki entrepreneur Sun Saburo Ohara. This is a private art museum, mainly focusing on Western exhibits. The museum has a small facade, shaded by ivy-like greenery, but after entering, the tall buildings in Greek style make people feel like they are in Europe. It houses the representative works of Barbizon school, Impressionism and modern Western European art such as El Greco's "Notice of Conception" and Monet's "Water Lilies". In addition, there is a collection of masterpieces of great significance in the history of modern Japanese art after the Meiji period (1868~), such as Kishida Ryusheng's "Dance of a Virgin". In addition to these collections, art lectures and gallery concerts are held here.
