Hassan tower boast a lovely plaza. It is a lot of beauty in one location. Great place to go for a read, date, walk or to take photos. When the weather is nice and the birds are chirping the atmosphere here is really soothing. As a traveler this is definitely a great place to visit and experience art and culture of Rabat. Hassan Tower is located at Boulevard Mohamed Lyazidi, Rabat, Morocco, which was built in 1196. It was commissioned by Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, the third Caliph of the Almohad Caliphate. The tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world, and the mosque, if completed, would be the largest in the western muslim world. When Al-Mansur died in 1199, the construction of the mosque stopped. The mosque is strategically placed on the high south bank of the Bu Regreg river to provide a spectacle visible for miles around. Located across from the Hassan Tower, contains the tombs of the Moroccan King Mohammed V and his two sons, late king Hassan II and Prince Abdallah built in 1961 and completed in 1971. Hassan Tower is an ancient building of great historical and cultural significance located in Rabat, the capital of Morocco. It was commissioned by the Almohad Caliph Abu Yusuf Yaqub in 1195, and was originally intended to be the largest mosque in the world. However, the project was halted due to the death of the caliph, and the tower was left unfinished. Despite this, Hassan Tower remains an important landmark in Morocco, with its 44-meter-high red sandstone tower well-preserved, and the surrounding stone columns serving as remnants of the unfinished mosque, bearing witness to Morocco's glorious history and architectural artistry.

Originally, it was an 88-meter-high tower, but due to the major earthquake in Risbon, Portugal, it had a wide impact and was destroyed, making it currently 44 meters high. From the original design, the Hassan Tower or Grand Mosque may have been the tallest and largest mosque in the world, but when King Hassan died, the entire construction process was suddenly stopped. We can see that in this square, there are 86 pillars left. These pillars are not the result of art or intention. Rabat is the capital of Morocco, and it is also the capital that does not have much sense of existence, because many people know Casablanca, Marrakech, Fez or Chefchaouen, but it is really little known about Rabat. Rabat, on the verge of the Atlantic, is one of the four largest imperial cities in Morocco with Fes, Marrakech and Meknes. It has been the political capital of Morocco since 1912. In the glory of the 12th century, the King of Morocco planned to build a largest mosque in North Africa in Rabat. The legendary mosque covers an area of 25,000 square meters, with 19 halls and 480 pillars, and the minaret is 80 meters high. But the mosque was not finished yet, and the king was blissful. The mosque under construction was also unfinished. Only the miniature version of the minaret was barely finished, and it was reduced to 44 meters. This is the current Hassan Tower. In 1755, a famous earthquake with Lisbon as the epicenter caused the unfinished mosque to escape the catastrophe. All the mosques that had not yet been completed collapsed, leaving only 312 high and low pillars and minaret.
