Eat in Sai Ying Pun | Hemma | Pasta is more surprising than cheesecake
I finally tried the Hemma waffle restaurant which I had heard a lot about earlier. Friends who want to go there should note that the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Fortunately, my best friend was on holiday and went out to get tickets and wait for a table, so I had the chance to try the waffle.
Handwritten menu, one for food and one for drinks.
Gnocchi with tomato cream sauce ($158) looks attractive, with a piece of cheese inserted into it to add an artistic touch. The cheese tastes like some kind of snack, very familiar but I can’t imagine what kind of snack it is. The tomato cream sauce is slightly sour, which neutralizes the greasiness of the potato balls. The side dish is eggplant, which is what waffles like, and it is very delicious.
Aglio e olio with shrimp ($148) is also beautifully presented and tastes a bit like Chinese lobster in soup, with a hint of spiciness from the garlic flavor. The noodles are just the right amount of softness and hardness, a quality dish.
As for drinks, my friend’s Hot chocolate with homemade marshmallow ($65) has a rich chocolate flavor, and the marshmallow makes it look and taste even better.
The waffle matcha latte ($55) tasted good, but the presentation could be improved.
It’s time for the most anticipated dessert. We first had an Oreo burnt cheesecake ($68). Waffles had high expectations when trying Hemma’s “#世一切士蛋糕”. After tasting it, I’m not saying it’s bad, but it doesn’t seem to be up to the level of “世一”.
Of the two desserts I had that day, I personally prefer the Earl grey tea party ($68), which is Earl Grey tea cheesecake served with sea salt cream and caramel popcorn. The rich Earl Grey tea flavor is mixed with the saltiness of sea salt and the sweetness of caramel, and the taste is layered and rich.
