Walk past Heunginjimun Gates (and surely take a pic!) to Heunginjimun Park and find a spot at one of many benches or right at the wall - sit with locals and enjoy the view! Since Namdaemun was destroyed in 2008, Dongdaemun is the only place with 600 years of history. Dongdaemun is the center of eastern Hanyang, overseeing the Dongmyo and Changsin Bomun areas of Seouldoseong. Heunginjimun Park is built on a considerable hill, so you have to climb a mountain to see the fortress. Let's start. ------- Boundaries and divisions of Hinyangdoseong The Hanyangdoseong that existed during the Joseon Dynasty originally passed through five districts of Seoul (Jongno, Dongdaemun, Seodaemun, Seongbuk-gu, Jung-gu) and was approximately 18km long. It was built around the palaces of Gyeongbokgung and Gyeonghuigung, and surrounded mountains such as Inwang Baekak and Naksan. Dongdaemun, also known as Heunginjimun, is the only gate among the four major and four minor gates of Hanyang with four characters in its name. It was believed that the name Heunginjimun was too weak in terms of feng shui, so four characters were needed to bolster its aura. The gate was built during the reign of King Taejo and was the eastern gate of Hanyang. It was renovated during the reigns of King Danjong and King Gojong, becoming a double-sided gate tower with five rooms on the front and two on the sides. To protect the gate, a crescent-shaped walled town was built around it, making it the only gate among the eight gates of Seoul with such a design. Today, Dongdaemun is a bustling commercial area. To truly appreciate its beauty, one must climb up to the Fortress Park. This wall, which has guarded Hanyang for 600 years, has now become a park. Following the camel-like Naksan, you can walk all the way to Ihwa Mural Village and the top of Naksan. This area is also a favorite filming location for Korean dramas, such as Rooftop Prince and Brilliant Legacy. The fortress wall stands 5-8 meters high. The hidden doors and tunnels of the old defense works reveal the changes in faith and residential areas over time. It's like a portal to 600 years ago, and it's a popular hiking route for Seoul residents. If you visit Dongdaemun, don't forget to come here and have a date with history. On this #Seoultrip, I stayed at Dongdaemun and had to transfer at Dongdaemun, so I took a picture while passing by #ddp. I saw people walking along the nearby fortress wall and many exhibitions were closed due to the Lunar New Year holiday, but just walking around the DDP building and looking at the exterior from the outside was nice enough.

1 minute from Dongdaemun Station! Even a walker can get there right away😖 It seems like a steep slope to call it a park..! So it's beautiful when you look up from below, and when you look down from above, you can see Heunginjimun as a set, so it's a perfect autumn scenery in the city..🤎 It looks like a reed, but it's a plant called Sukreung!! Even the name seems to have an autumn feel(?)🫠 If you follow the fortress wall all the way to Naksan Park, If you have time and stamina, you can try it!
