Claypot rice is popular with tourists
Every year there is a time when I think of clay pot rice! Although the clay pot rice I ate most often in the past winter was takeout from fast food chains, I still want to try the authentic one! @hingkeehk
Claypot rice with eel oil and duck $120
Hing Kee Oyster Pancake $50 (small) $95 (large)
I really wanted to eat white eel clay pot rice, and I chose fried duck spleen, which I don’t have many opportunities to eat at home, so this combination of clay pot rice came about! In fact, the ingredients here are so varied that you can find almost any combination you want to eat. The clay pot rice takes time to make but it is served faster than you think! The first thing to do is of course to open the lid, pour a layer of sweet soy sauce and then cook for three minutes to allow the rice to form a crispy crust! The amount of ingredients is not small, the white eel is plump and rich in fish oil but not too fishy, and it is cut thickly without too many fish bones, so it is very delicious! The duck is lean and there is not much oil, which is a pity to squeeze out. The saltiness is moderate. If it had more oil and was eaten with rice, it would be a perfect match! The rice is dry enough, and the happiest thing is to be lucky enough to create golden rice crust! The duck is still a bit salty even though I didn’t add too much soy sauce, but it’s just enough to create the flavor!
Another popular dish that rivals the waiting time for making clay pot rice is the fried oyster cake. Almost every customer will order it. A large portion is ordered for many people to share; a small portion is also enough for a small group of people. Although it is a small portion, it still comes with two large portions! The oyster cake is fried in the upper half, which makes it golden and crispy. The batter is not too thick, and the oysters are fresh and large in size. However, the egg flavor is lacking and the oysters are small in quantity. It tastes a bit oily, which is a bit of a pity.
This store has been open in Yau Ma Tei for many years, and there are 5 branches in just one short street! Although there are so many stores that you shouldn't have to worry about not having a seat, there are still long queues during dinner time. Most of them are tourists from different places. This is because the store has received a lot of media coverage and many YouTubers have visited to film over the years, making it popular among foreign tourists! At one of the branches I visited that night, the ratio of local to out-of-town customers was about 3:7! As for whether it is really delicious, it depends on personal opinion. The location is super convenient. People like me who want to eat occasionally but don't want to go through too much trouble and just want to satisfy their cravings will choose this place
