[Osaka Prefecture/Hiraoka Shrine] "Motokasuga" where there are deer in the precincts
Hiraoka Shrine is the Ichinomiya (first shrine) of Kawachi Province.
During the reign of Emperor Jimmu, Ame-no-Tane-no-Mikoto ordered his ancestors Ameno-Koyane-no-Mikoto and Hime-no-Kami to be enshrined on Mt. Hiraoka by imperial command.
In 773, Futsunushi-no-Mikoto and Takemikazuchi-no-Mikoto were enshrined together.
And when Kasuga Taisha Shrine was founded, the two deities Ameno-Koyane-no-Mikoto and Hime-no-Kami were enshrined, which is why Hiraoka Shrine is called "Moto-Kasuga"!
On the two pillars at the entrance, the characters "Tenso wo Hohitsu" and "Shinji Sogen" are written, respectively.
These represent Ameno-Koyane-no-Mikoto, who was a great help to His Majesty the Emperor (Tenso wo Hohitsu) and the god who first performed a Shinto ritual (Shinji Sogen).
Ameno-Koyane-no-Mikoto was the first god to perform the ritual of opening the Ama-no-Iwato Cave, reciting a prayer to bring out Amaterasu Omikami, who had hidden inside the rock.
Furthermore, it is said that he descended to earth with Ninigi-no-Mikoto when the heavenly grandson descended to earth, and was given a divine command to help the grandson, a heavy responsibility that he bore.
There are also "petting deer" on the grounds, and worshippers can be seen gathering to pet the deer.
