[Hiroshima/Onomichi] A shopping street that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time
An old-fashioned shopping street located very close to Onomichi Station
The nostalgic atmosphere reminds me of the Showa era
Despite this atmosphere, it was a fun place with stylish cafes and famous delicious restaurants
You can enjoy both the food and the atmosphere with Onomichi ramen and Onomichi breweries
It's within walking distance from the station, so I recommend it

~ Onomichi
One of the main attractions in Onomichi is the long “shotengai”, or shopping street. Despite the old Showa Era atmosphere, this street is still full of life, activity and of course plenty of good shopping opportunities.
Despite the modest size of Onomichi, this city has a surprisingly long and interesting shopping street. Stretching over one kilometer from start to finish, the Onomichi Hon-dori, on some signs also referred to as Center-gai or Onomichi-dori, is a classic Showa Era shopping street, covered with a semitransparent ceiling that will give you some much appreciated shelter on rainy days, and is full of old shops.
Not far from the western end of the shopping street, towards the JR station, is a small open space where various events such as a local farmer's market and music performances are arranged from time to time

Hiroshima, An Underrated Gem In Japan! Perfect For Budget Travellers too
If you’re looking to visit Japan on a budget I’d strongly recommend checking out Hiroshima, it’s a wonderful city that doesn’t get enough praise for how budget friendly it is. It has a dark history but it’s turned into a lively and eclectic city with a huge food and shopping scene.
⭐️ Trains - We got the Shinkansen here from Osaka and it was a lot cheaper to do a train with stops. It only added 90 minutes to the journey but cost us half the price. The ticket agent will help you find cheaper tickets if you’re willing to do stops!
⭐️ Hotels - There are not as many options here compared to other cities in Japan so I stayed at a local boutique hotel. The rooms are small and there are not as many amenities as name brand chains but they’re great for a few days! we stayed in the Kiro hotel in Nishihiratsukacho.
⭐️ transport - the best part about Hiroshima is how compact
The city is and you can walk to most of the hot spots. We only used transport when it rained. Everything else we walked to, so a great way to save money!
⭐️ Food - we didn’t have any issues here with food, even the more premium meals we had were very well priced and great quality. To save money head to Hondori! One of the biggest covered pedestrian streets I’ve seen, hundreds of street food vendors and restaurants. We came here everyday as we saw so much we wanted to try! There is also Korean BBQ / Sushi / teppanyaki on the side street if you want to spend more money.
⭐️ Nature - Hiroshima is a very green and beautiful city so a lot of our time was spent exploring and enjoying this. And that’s amazing because nature is free! 💚

【Hiroshima】A Day of Fun in the Historic Setouchi Town of Onomichi
Upon arriving in Onomichi, the first thing that catches your eye is the extraordinary scenery unique to this town of hills and sea. As you climb the narrow alleys, you'll encounter old houses and cats popping out unexpectedly, making you feel as if you've stepped into a movie scene. On the way to Senkoji Temple, every view is picturesque, and leisurely walking while taking photos is truly enjoyable. From Senkoji Temple, you can overlook the Onomichi Channel, with its serene sea dotted with islands, leaving a lasting impression. The shopping street is lined with unique cafes and shops, perfect for a quick break. Additionally, Onomichi is famous for its ramen, with renowned restaurants scattered throughout the town.

Take a break at the retro public bath cafe in Onomichi ♨️☕
Onomichi's Yamatoyu is a stylish cafe and gallery that was renovated from a former public bath. Enjoy carefully selected coffee and sweets in a retro atmosphere.
We recommend the homemade lemonade. The refreshing sweetness will soothe your tired body after sightseeing in Onomichi. There are also plenty of lunches and homemade sweets made with local ingredients. The interior, such as tables and tiles, that give you a sense of the bathhouse's past is also worth seeing!
Art exhibitions are sometimes held in the gallery space, so you can enjoy different charms every time you visit. Be sure to stop by between your strolls around Onomichi!

[Hiroshima/Onomichi] Hiroshima-yaki from a traditional restaurant that's only open on weekends!
This restaurant is located at the end of Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street
It was an okonomiyaki restaurant with a great atmosphere
It seemed to be popular, so there was quite a line, and there were many takeaway orders from locals!
The okonomiyaki here contains gizzard shad!
It was my first time to try something like this, but it was incredibly delicious!! It goes well with beer🍻
I was also very satisfied with the oyster okonomiyaki, which is unique to Hiroshima!
The beer was served in cans☺️

[Japan, Hiroshima🇯🇵] A cute purple cafe
📍UBEKE
A cute purple cafe in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture☕️💜
This is a rare shop where you can enjoy sweets made with Philippine purple yam, "ube"!
The menu includes cakes, soft serve ice cream, muffins, and more, allowing you to fully enjoy the taste of ube🧁
Ube means red yam in the Filipino language. This is also recommended for those who were impressed by its deliciousness during their trip to the Philippines! I was surprised when I found a shop specializing in ube in Japan.
A new type of sweet that has a strong potato flavor in addition to its sweetness. This time I had the soft serve ice cream, but next time I'd like to try the cake too✨
Perfect for eating your way around Onomichi◎
Please come and visit us✨

[Japan, Hiroshima🇯🇵] Eat Chinese food in a bathhouse!?
📍Yamatoyu (Onomichi)
Yamatoyu is a unique Chinese restaurant in a renovated former public bathhouse in the shopping district of Onomichi. ♨️🍚
The exterior and interior of the restaurant retain the atmosphere of a public bathhouse, making it very cute!
There is only one type of lunch, so I ordered the Yamatoyu lunch (1,300 yen).
It was quite filling and everything was delicious. 🤤
The Lu Rou Fan in particular had very tender meat and was incredibly tasty!
There was a 20 minute wait, but it was worth it 💫
This is a spot you should definitely stop by when exploring Onomichi ✨

[Hiroshima] Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street: A strolling spot filled with local flavors and charm
Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street is a fun spot filled with the charm of Onomichi.
The approximately 300-meter street is lined with local specialty shops, stylish cafes, and unique general stores, making it exciting just to stroll around.
In particular, the shops that serve Onomichi ramen and dishes made with fresh seafood are loved by locals.
For those who like sweet things, we recommend sweets made with Onomichi mandarin oranges and traditional Japanese sweets.

Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street is just a short walk from Onomichi Station 🚶🚶
Historic buildings from the Edo period to the early Showa period remain, and the streetscape is very charming 🥳🥳
Japan's leading shopping street, which stretches for about 1.2 km in length, is lined with about 210 stores ✨✨
There are long-established stores that have been in business for over 100 years and buildings designated as historical and cultural properties, so just walking around is a lot of fun 🎶🎶
You can also enjoy Hiroshima's specialty okonomiyaki and lemon desserts 🍋 😆😆

~Lots of photogenic spots!~
Senkoji Temple is a major tourist spot in Onomichi, but that's not all.
Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street, there are shops that use old public baths and buildings with retro exteriors, so you can enjoy just walking around.
The Fumiko statue, a popular meeting spot in Onomichi, is also about a 2-minute walk from the station. Fumiko Hayashi, who spent her childhood in Onomichi, is said to have loved the city of Onomichi her whole life.
Even today, hydrangeas are offered and poetry is read in front of the statue on the anniversary of Fumiko's death.
Why not visit Onomichi, which is full of fun things to do?

[Hiroshima] The main street of a nostalgic area 🚶♀️🚶
Onomichi is a place where you can experience the nostalgic atmosphere of Hiroshima. 💡
The main street there is the Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street.
This retro shopping street is a 5-minute walk from Onomichi Station, and is about 1km long. 🛣️
There are about 200 stores lined up, with a mix of old-fashioned shops and new shops created by immigrants. 🏘️
There are a lot of restaurants, and there are plenty of emotional and flashy stores. ✨
In particular, there are many cafes and ramen shops. 🍜
The best part of enjoying this shopping street might be to walk down this street and choose a shop that suits your taste. 😄
Let's take a walk here with a camera in hand📸
