Hong Kong · Black and White Art Center hidden in the park |
When visiting Hong Kong Park, one must not miss the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre hidden within the park. Its architectural style is eye-catching and full of classical romantic atmosphere.
·
The predecessor of the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre was the Cassel Hospital, which is now a Grade I historical building. It was built according to the terrain, and the entire building is like a staircase, which is a rare architectural design in Hong Kong. The exterior of the building is a typical Edwardian classical revival architectural style.
·
One thing worth mentioning besides the European-style white exterior of the White Tower is its retro black metal skeleton inside, which, when paired with the white walls of the tower, creates a minimalist style that resembles a futuristic art and technology museum.
·
The building was originally composed of four three-story dormitories, built layer by layer along the mountain with ancient Greek-style triangular gables between each building.
·
The exterior walls are made of red bricks and painted with gray plaster. The east and west sides were originally open arcades with columns, in the style of Edwardian Classical Revival. It is now a first-class historical building.
·
The building has five floors, including a semi-basement, and combines exhibition halls, studios, storage rooms, classrooms, screening rooms, and offices into a multifunctional structure.
·The various functional rooms are relatively small, but the traffic organization is quite reasonable in combination with the mountainous terrain. The unique layout utilizes a small central courtyard on the central axis to separate the functional rooms with different heights on the left and right sides. The interior design includes a ramp for transporting goods with a very gentle slope, and the indoor space design is extremely exquisite.
·
Here, not only can you enjoy some daily exhibitions, but you can also take many beautiful architectural photos. It is a niche check-in spot where art and architectural beauty coexist.
