[2025 Hong Kong Attraction] Travel Guide for Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (Updated May)

The site of the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens was once the official residence of the Governor of Hong Kong. It is one of the earliest parks established in Hong Kong. The park was named Botanical Gardens in the early days because it was mainly plant-based. Later, as the number of animals raised in the park increased, it was renamed the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens in 1975. The site of the park was once the seat of the Governor's Office, and the Governor was also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in Hong Kong, known as "Bingtou", so the park is also commonly known as "Bingtou Garden". Albina Road divides the park into two independent parts, east and west. The eastern part of the park is called "Old Park", which has a children's playground, greenhouse and fountain platform garden. At the same time, it is also the home of birds such as American flamingos, long-crowned starlings, yellow-necked barnacle geese, and red-crowned cranes. The western part is called "New Park", which is mainly home to mammals such as Bornean orangutans, red-cheeked black apes, emperor tamarins, raccoons, and reptiles such as Burmese tortoises and shield-armed tortoises. You can also see the "treasure of the town park" - jaguar. The park has more than 1,000 species of plants, most of which are produced in tropical and subtropical regions. It includes major local and foreign species in Hong Kong, such as pine, cypress, fig, palm, eucalyptus, magnolia, camellia, azalea and spring feather. In autumn, maple trees and bald cypress add to the autumn colors. There is a "Medicinal Plant Garden" in the southern part of the park. In addition to appreciating animals and plants, you can also stroll along the historical trail in the park and visit three historically significant attractions, namely the memorial archway, the bronze statue of King George VI and the pavilion, and savor the story of the park in a cozy atmosphere of birdsong and flowers.
