Red Flag Canal Scenic Area
Located in Linzhou, Henan Province, at the intersection of Henan, Shanxi, and Hebei provinces, Red Flag Canal Scenic Area is a 5A-level scenic area, a national key scenic area, a national water conservancy scenic area, a national geopark, a national red tourism classic scenic area, and a national research and practice education base for primary and secondary school students. The scenic area is known for its breathtaking natural scenery and rich cultural heritage, making it a perfect example of the harmonious integration of culture and nature.
The Red Flag Canal Scenic Area consists of the following main attractions:
• Fen Shui Yuan: The main canal of the Red Flag Canal splits into three branches here, extending south and north into the heart of Linzhou. On April 5, 1965, the completion and water diversion ceremony of the main canal of the Red Flag Canal was held here. The main axis landscape belt of the garden area is home to the Water Conservancy Science Park, the Pillar of Spirit, the Performance Square, the Red Flag Canal Monument, and other attractions.
• Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall: The 515-meter-long exhibition line uses space, sculpture, painting, multimedia, and other means to recreate, touch, travel through, and converse with history, allowing visitors to deeply appreciate the spirit of the Red Flag Canal.
• Youth Cave: The main attraction of this comprehensive scenic area is the representative project of the Red Flag Canal, the Youth Cave, which is supported by the Taihang Mountains and integrates cultural and natural landscapes. It is a place to experience the spirit of hard work and perseverance embodied by the Red Flag Canal.
The Red Flag Canal is known as the "Man-Made Heavenly River." In the 1960s, the people of Lin County (now Linzhou) built a water conservancy project to divert water from the Zhang River to Linzhou under extremely difficult conditions. It is known as the "Man-Made Heavenly River" and is hailed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World." The completion of the Red Flag Canal not only created enormous material wealth but also gave birth to the spirit of the Red Flag Canal, characterized by self-reliance, hard work, unity, cooperation, and selfless dedication.
