[2025 London Attraction] Travel Guide for Horse Guards Parade (Updated May)

Walked pass this place on the way to the London eye. I’ve never seen such a huge horse in my real life, the horse is so huge and well tamed. Is so cool to see this in London because I thought you will only see this scene in the movies 😂 Fin fact- The horse guard is still ceremonially defended by the King’s life guards 💂

One of the largest open spaces in London - used for both royal parades and ceremonies. Rating - 5/5 Sadly, I visited on a day when the parade is either over or yet to start. Hence, it was just a wide open space. I would suggest you check before heading there! So if you missed it, don't be too sad as there are many other place to visit around such as the Admiralty Arch, St. James's Park, Buckingham Palace and many more! 1. At 10:40 AM, watch the march at St. James's Palace. 2. By 11:00 AM, head to Horse Guards Parade to see the mounted guards. 3. At 11:40 AM, stand on the right-hand road facing Buckingham Palace to see the mounted guards approaching from behind. 6. At 11:44 AM, enjoy a close view of the military band on the left-hand road!

Horse Guards Parade is the ceremonial parade ground in St James's Park and is the scene of Trooping the Colour on the Queen's official birthday in June. Horse Guards is the building with a clock tower over an archway, and remains the official entrance to St James's and Buckingham Palace. Horse Guards dates from the eighteenth century and was designed by William Kent, the then Chief Architect to George II. The building is guarded by two mounted cavalry troopers of The Queen's Life Guard who are posted outside from 10am to 4pm daily. The Life Guard change takes place here at 11:00am daily and 10:00am on Sundays. During the Trooping the Colour, the central windows are opened so members of the Royal Family can watch the Queen reviewing her troops below. In addition to Trooping the Colour, Horse Guards Parade plays host to the floodlit musical spectacular of Beating Retreat by the massed bands of the Household Division over two successive evenings in June.
