It was used as a factory for poison gas during World War II between 1929 and 1945. When the war ended, the government ordered the evacuation of people. The rabbits that used to be experimental animals were left behind and reproduced naturally. Currently, there are cute rabbits all over the island. We can walk around or bring bicycles across to the island. How to get there 🐰 From Hiroshima Station, take the Shinkansen to Mihara Station, then transfer to the JR Kure Line and get off at Tadanoumi Station. It takes about 90 minutes. Then walk to Tadanoumi Port for about 15 minutes (300 meters). There are signs to the port (Minato Oasis Tadanoumi) along the way to take the ferry to Rabbit Island.

Okuno Island, also known as Rabbit Island, can be boarded from Tadakai Port. There are free parking spaces and JR stops near the port. You don’t have to drive to get there. However, in principle, there are only hotel shuttle buses on the island. If there is no shuttle bus, you can get there. If you are staying on the island, it is recommended to walk to enjoy the scenery and the cute rabbit army (please remember to buy rabbit food at Zhonghai Port first)
