Huangqiao Town was built during the Yuanfeng reign of Shenzong in the Northern Song Dynasty. It is a thousand-year-old town with a long history and a famous cultural town with rich heritage. It is adjacent to the Yangtze River in the south, Rugao in the east, and Jiangyan in the north. Huangqiao has historically been known as a water hub that "divides Huaiwa in the north and connects with Jiangchao in the south". Provincial Highway 334, such as the Yellow Line and Jiangba Line, cross the town area, and two expressways, Ningjingyan and Ningtong, pass through the town. Across the border from Huangqiao, the New (Yi) Chang (Xing) Railway has a passenger and cargo marshalling station in Huangqiao. The Yellow Bridge has a long history and is rich in humanities. There are more than 2,000 well-preserved Ming and Qing buildings in the Yellow Bridge, and a small number of Song Dynasty buildings. There are three traditional ancient blocks in the east, south and west, with a total area of nearly 30 hectares. Huangqiao is also the site of the Battle of Huangqiao under the command of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, and many historical sites of the revolution are still preserved. During the period of resisting Japan and saving the nation, a decisive battle of Huangqiao that shocked China and foreign countries became a new glory added to the history of Huangqiao, and a song of Huangqiao sesame cakes has been sung in the north and south of the river since then.
