Come to Handan while there aren't many tourists!
This year, I spent two days in Handan, Hebei Province during the Lunar New Year. It was an unforgettable experience.
I set off from Beijing on New Year's Eve and arrived at Guangfu Ancient City in Yongnian, Handan after more than four hours. The ancient city is surrounded by water on all sides, which is rare for a northern city. After a tour of the city, I went to a hotel in the city center to spend New Year's Eve.
On the morning of the first day of the new year, I went to the Xiangtangshan Grottoes. The ticket for the North Xiangtangshan Grottoes is CNY 60. I went to the digital museum first, and then climbed the mountain to the grottoes. Although I have been to the Yungang Grottoes in Datong and the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, the Xiangtangshan Grottoes are not as well preserved as the other two and are smaller in scale, but they are still very impressive. They are the swan song of the Northern Dynasty grottoes and the tomb of Gao Huan, the founding monarch of the Northern Qi Dynasty, with a desolate artistic conception.
In the afternoon, I went to the Handan Road Historical Block in the city center, Huiche Lane, the birthplace of Qin Shi Huang, and the Congtai Terrace of King Wuling of Zhao. There were many people and it was very lively. I learned a lot about the historical stories of Handan.
On the morning of the second day of the new year, I visited the Handan Museum, and in the afternoon, I went to Guangfu Ancient City in Yongnian again, changed into a battle robe to take photos, and enjoyed the night view, which was very beautiful.
I was impressed by Handan, which has a long history and many historical sites. There are also other attractions nearby, such as the Yecheng Ruins and the Nuwa Palace, which I will visit next time.
According to my plan, I went to Xinxiang, Henan Province that night. I will write about my trip to Xinxiang in the next article. Handan, Hebei
