Weekend Adventures: Exploring Magdeburg! 🇩🇪✨
#summervacay
Thinking about where to go for a weekend trip from Hamburg? Well, my "Hamburg surrounding cities" plan is officially in motion, and this past weekend, I ventured out to Magdeburg!
Getting there from Hamburg is pretty chill. It takes about three hours by train (and hey, if you have the €49 monthly ticket, it's free! 🙌). Just hop on the RE3 from the main station to Uelzen, then transfer to the RE20 to Magdeburg.
Pro-tip: Try to go on a sunny day if you can! There aren't a ton of "pretty" buildings, so good weather really helps make the unique ones shine.
Here are my top two recommendations for things to check out:
Must-See Spot ①: The Hundertwasser House (Hundertwassers "Grüne Zitadelle") 🏡🌈
This place is seriously cool and feels like something straight out of a fairytale! I highly recommend taking the guided tour. You'll get to explore the apartments inside, check out the rooftop, and even peek into the underground parking garage. It's truly a healing architectural experience and definitely a hidden gem worth discovering!

Must-See Spot ②: Jahrtausendturm Magdeburg 🔭🔬
I couldn't fit all my photos in here, but trust me, the inside of this building is amazing! Go in with zero expectations, and you'll be wonderfully surprised. It's packed with all sorts of fascinating science and physics exhibits, especially about astronomy. You'll find this impressive structure located within the Elbauenpark.

Similar to Cologne Cathedral
Magdeburg has nothing going on, but it has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
This cathedral is a tourist spot that's pretty much the only one of its kind! I thought it looked similar to Cologne Cathedral, and it's apparently from the same era. You can tour the inside for free, too. It was beautiful.
There are many sushi restaurants in Magdeburg, and although they're all a bit pricey (mostly original Asian cuisine), it's definitely worth a try.

A small European city in the junior high school physics textbook, with many historical sites and a strong artistic atmosphere
Although it is the capital of a state, Magdeburg is not a big city in Germany. The first time I heard of this city was in a physics class in junior high school. The "Magdeburg Hemisphere Experiment" mentioned in the textbook took place in this city, so when I set foot on this land, I had an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
The history of Magdeburg can be traced back more than 1,000 years ago. In the 13th century, it became a commercial center at that time. Its economy and culture have made great progress. Therefore, there are many historical sites in this city, including the Magdeburg Cathedral built from the 13th to the 16th century, and the town hall from the 16th to the 17th century.
Walking under the towering spire of Magdeburg Cathedral, you can feel the mottled traces left by time on it. The Gothic dome is hundreds of meters high and once became the tallest building in the city. The cathedral has housed many works of art over the centuries and is itself a rare work of art.
Walking on the streets of Magdeburg, I sometimes have the illusion that I am in a city in the former Soviet Union. Perhaps it is because the city was assigned to East Germany after World War II, so it has retained some traces of the Soviet Union. The thousand-year-old ancient buildings and modern buildings coexist, presenting a unique beauty.

European C
European Christmas and New Year's Day are the same as our Spring Festival. In a foreign country, I dont go out to experience the fireworks in the capitalist countries, and see how the firecrackers have seen the fireworks, the surprise and joy that they have seen, how can they be worthy of the hard work of this year?

Under the
Under the bridge of the Elbe River in the evening, it is the quiet flow of the Elbe River. Most of the river cruises have been rested, and the waves are gently shaken on the shore. We chose to take a small cruise on the boat in the evening, enjoy the dinner on the boat and enjoy the flowing scenery.
On the shore, on the gravel paved road, the track of the tram reflects the cold light under the illumination of the road and the moonlight.
The palaces, squares, churches and buildings on both sides of the river are projected in the river, and the lights and stone arches that sway with the water are like the scenery in the oil paintings.
I can't help but think of the poetic name that made me want to be a yearning for the city: Florence on the Elbe River is really beautiful.
