Hwadam Botanic Garden is an eco-friendly arboretum located within Konjiam Resort in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, a 40 min drive away from Seoul. In an effort to revive the country's forest ecosystem, LG Evergreen Foundation brought in approximately 4,300 types of exquisite and domestic plants to form a forest park divided into 17 themes. "Hwadam" can be translated into "friendly communication," a name given to the forest in hopes that the area serves as a means for people to communicate with nature. While the forest is designed to offer an environmentally friendly atmosphere, the ecosystem and habitats of the forest are well-preserved, serving as a home to many living species.

Hwadamsup is one of the best places to enjoy the beautiful autumn colors. While booking online is encouraged, this can be tricky for tourists without a Korean phone number/residency card. I suggest you to book in person at the ticket kiosk when arriving. The monorail is constantly creeping past so there are many opportunities to catch the iconic moment. From the moment you enter to the moment you exit, you can tell that a lot of time, thought, effort, patience, care, love, culture and tradition went into creating this stunning, magical, nature lover's paradise. Going at the beginning of Autumn was like getting to experience the last summer green beauty in the trees whilst saying hello to the yellowy, orangey hues of a few autumn leaves as they began to spread across the garden. I can only imagine how stunning this place is at the height of autumn or any other season especially spring. It's a perfect day out experience; whether solo; boo'd up; friends outing or a family day. They cater for everyone with a lot of bathroom & vending machine stops along the way and benches to have a mini food and drink break or just to enjoy the surroundings. PS: Get A map and collect stamps along the path and get a souvenir!

The monorail ride was unforgettable, and we got the best views of Hwadam Forest and the mountains in the distance. We could even see the ski slopes from the ski resort in the distance. The monorail covers a loop of 1,213 meters, and the ride is very relaxed. You can also see the entire garden if you have little time to walk around extensively. The monorail has three stations, with Station 1 at the entrance, where we were to take it. Stations 2 and 3 are at the top of the botanic garden area. I highly recommend Hwadam Forest to anyone visiting South Korea. The arboretum is open in every season, and each season offers its unique beauty. Just make sure you dress appropriately for the weather, such as wearing layers in winter or bringing a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock in summer. You also need to make the reservation on the official website in advance.
