Location: Ilsan Lake Park, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
If you're searching for a peaceful yet picturesque escape not far from Seoul, Ilsan Lake Park is a must-visit gem. Spanning over a million square meters, this massive urban park is home to East Asia’s largest man-made lake—and it’s every bit as beautiful as it sounds.
I visited on a crisp spring afternoon, just in time to catch the golden hour. As I walked along the lakeside path, cherry blossoms fluttered in the breeze, and the scent of fresh flowers from the botanical gardens lingered in the air. The park felt alive with joggers, cyclists, families, and couples enjoying picnics under pastel skies.
What impressed me most was how perfectly the park blended nature and thoughtful design. There are multiple islands within the lake, charming wooden bridges, open plazas for gatherings, and even a quiet forest path if you crave solitude. Benches are everywhere—perfect for resting and soaking in the serene views. You’ll also find a cactus greenhouse, lotus ponds in summer, and vibrant seasonal flower beds year-round.
The best time to visit is during spring (April–May) for cherry blossoms and the Goyang International Flower Festival, or in autumn (October–early November) when the trees burst into brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow.
Helpful Tips:
Take the subway to Jeongbalsan Station (Line 3), Exit 2 – the park is just a short walk away.
Visit in late afternoon to catch sunset views reflected over the calm water.
Bring snacks or a picnic—there are lots of open spaces to sit and relax.
Whether you're after a peaceful solo stroll, a romantic date spot, or a family-friendly day out, Ilsan Lake Park offers a refreshing breath of nature in the middle of the city.
