The Initiation Well is one of the most mysterious wells in the world. It is located in Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, Portugal. It is actually a mysterious ritual gathering for the owner of the manor! The design is like an "inverted tower" with a depth of 27 meters. It was designed to represent the nine circles of Dante’s Inferno and features a Gothic spiral staircase that descends approximately 88 feet underground to a labyrinth of tunnels. It is said to be used for ritual purposes. As I walked down the stairs, the air started to get cooler and the views both up and down were amazing. If you can I recommend you prioritize visiting the Well of Initiation before enjoying the rest of Quinta da Regaleira.
