The Senjo Pavilion in Miyajima is located next to the five-storied pagoda. In 1587, Fengcheng Hideyoshi recited a thousand Buddhist scriptures once a month in order to worship the dead. This is the largest building on the island, and it is called Senjokaku because it has a width of 857 tatami. However, due to the sudden death of Hideyoshi, the fortifications of Senjokaku were terminated in the middle of the way, and it still remains unfinished at that time.
