[2025 Russia Airports] Travel Guide for Iturup Airport (Updated May)

Iturup, one of Kuril Islands, is a true gem in emerging destinations. It attracts not only foreigners but Russians too. The island is located on a Far East and there are direct flights to there only from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and from Vladivostok in summer season. The nature is truly beautiful there and one of the places we have visited was a sand quarry with very interesting layers of soil. Iturup is one of the islands on Russian Far East that is still doesn’t have that many tourists and is not a popular destination at all. There are very few really nice hotels there, majority of the places are just apartments and places similar to hostels. But the thing why you really need to explore that unique area is a beautiful and wild untouched nature. One of the places there that will really blow your mind is a thermal spring located at the foot of the volcano named Baranskiy. The temperature in this thermal spring is so high that one can easily boil the eggs there. And that’s what we did! Just be very careful. Although the area don’t have many fashionable hotels or restaurants, the main thing here is untouched nature. The nature of volcanoes, cold seas, bears walking around, black volcanic ash and hot natural thermal spas.
