Iwami Ginzan is located in Ota City in the central part of Shimane Prefecture. It was a large-scale silver mine in Japan in the late Warring States Period and early Edo Period, and its output once accounted for 30% of the world at that time. It is an example of mining without destroying nature and was successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2007. Iwami Ginzan was closed in the 12th year of Taisho (1923), and now the remains of silver mining and smelting remain, including the remains of silver mines and mining towns, Iwami Ginzan streets, ports and port towns Wait. Combining traditional silver mines, ancient towns and abundant mountain forests, Iwami Silver Mountain is worth a visit as a member of the World Heritage List.
