Kawazu Sakura, Tokyo's earliest cherry blossom festival. Personal sharing of hotels/attractions/food
If you want to see Japan's earliest #cherry blossoms🌸 you must visit #IzuKawazucho. Around mid-February to mid-March, the Kawazu region is full of cherry blossoms, as you can see by looking at the 2023 official website.
Closed 3 years ago once flew to Tokyo, specifically to see Kawazu cherry blossoms.
From Tokyo, take the Tetsu Yuko directly to Kawazu Station, about 2 hours and 40 minutes. The fare is very expensive, about HK$350 one way. Watching Kawazu Sakura really requires determination.
It was already noon when we arrived at Kawazu Station. Many Japanese people watching cherry blossoms gather at Kawazu Station. There are stalls selling local fruits and dried fish on the roadside. I believe it will be more lively later.
Cherry Blossom Viewing Location: I mainly walk the "Kawazu River" next to Kawazu Station. The Kawabe Cherry Blossom Tunnel extends about 4 kilometers, and there are more tourists here. Up close, the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Rui is larger and more pink. Villagers will sell fruits, vegetables, and specialty snacks on both sides. You can fill your stomach when you are tired of walking, but it's really hard to find a trash can😂. Walking a little further, you can see the "Kawazu Sakura Logs", the first Kawazu cherry trees, the logs are about 60 years old;
Izuku soon gets into the evening and the store will close before six. It's easy to find food near the station. After dinner, you can enjoy the night cherry blossoms.
Returning to the Kawazu River, the sky was gray and hazy, but spotlights illuminated both sides of the river to make it easier to enjoy the night cherry blossoms. Unfortunately, Izu is close to the sea, the weather changes greatly, soon there is a strong wind and heavy rain, tourists are fewer, but can not take beautiful photos of night cherry blossoms. 🤦♂️
Accommodation is recommended to book in advance. I remember three or four months before departure the hotel near Kawazu Station was full, only booked the "Kaneihama Coast" station mountain family-style small hotel, but than I eat the famous Kinmeji in the shikitaka-style hotel, can also soak a personal bath, great, and the owner and make friends. There are several hotels next to the station, such as the Imai Binto Kyu Hotel, which is rather expensive, but facing the coast, the view is excellent; After breakfast, we went to the hotel and took pictures wildly, because we didn't know when we would be back, to fill our memories.
If you stay longer in Izu, you can go to Atami to soak in hot springs♨️ or visit Mount Omuro. You will definitely not be disappointed.
