Tomokazu Matsuyama Art Afternoon Tea
To celebrate Janu Tokyo’s first anniversary, the hotel will launch an extraordinary collaboration that combines food and art from March 15 to May 11, 2025. This event coincides with the first solo exhibition of Japanese contemporary artist Tomokazu Matsuyama at Azabudai No Oka Gallery in Tokyo. The two parties have jointly launched the "Art Afternoon Tea" themed afternoon tea, and inspired by his new series of exhibitions "FIRST LAST", presenting unique desserts and savory snacks at the Canu Lounge and Garden Terrace.
As part of this artistic collaboration, all guests staying at the Canno Hotel Tokyo will receive free tickets to visit Tomokazu Matsuyama’s exhibition and have exclusive first-hand access to purchase limited edition art prints of his new work, Nice Quiet Hot Tears (30 in total), which will be available at the Canno Hotel Tokyo boutique during the holiday.
Each afternoon tea snack incorporates the symbolic imagery of the "FIRST LAST" exhibition, with unique flavors and artistic aesthetics complementing each other. The refreshments on the first and third floors are inspired by his masterpiece “Passage Immortalitas”, while the second floor incorporates elements of his abstract painting “Keep Fishin’ For Twilight”, using the image of a thousand origami cranes to outline a poetic beauty.
The Art Afternoon Tea is carefully crafted by Yukie Noguchi, pastry chef at Canno Hotel Tokyo. Highlights include New York cheesecake with white chocolate, the signature "Januron" macaroons, and Sakura berry mousse with seasonal fruits.
The savory dishes are equally exquisite, including an open sandwich with specially selected beef from Gifu Prefecture, Tomokazu Matsuyama's hometown, as well as salmon mousse with mille-feuille vegetables and fish jelly with caviar.
In addition, there are original and cherry waffles, paired with soy milk cream, rice syrup and strawberry jam, bringing a rich taste experience to the taste buds.
“At Canno Hotel Tokyo, we strive to inspire our guests through art, culture, wellness and cuisine,” said Noriko Tanaka, General Manager of Canno Hotel Tokyo. “We are honored to be working with Tomokazu Matsuyama, a rising Japanese artist who shares our values and those of the Azabudai Hills community, to celebrate our anniversary.”
From March 15 to May 11, 2025, Canno Hotel Tokyo will exhibit a selection of Tomokazu Matsuyama’s works throughout the hotel, with a collection of his works placed in each guest room. In addition to receiving free tickets to the exhibition, guests staying at the hotel will also have the exclusive opportunity to purchase limited edition art prints (30 in total) of his new masterpiece "Silent Tears" at the hotel boutique.
Additionally, during the FIRST LAST exhibition at Azabudai Hills Gallery, ticket holders will receive a welcome drink when dining at any of Canno Hotel Tokyo’s six restaurants to continue the immersive art experience.
Speaking of the collaboration, Matsuyama said: “As a long-time admirer of Aman, I am extremely honoured to be working with Canno Tokyo, a dynamic new brand within the Aman portfolio. My work will be displayed not only within the hotel but also outside, and I hope that guests will be able to immerse themselves in this unique experience of art as they stroll through Azabudai Hills.”
The "Tomokazu Matsuyama Art Afternoon Tea" will be served at the Canu Lounge and Garden Terrace from 12:00 to 17:00 every day from March 15 to May 11, 2025, and is now open for online reservations.
