[2025 Shanghai Attraction] Travel Guide for Jingnan Park (North Gate) (Updated Mar)

For a weekend stroll or few hours trip, you can visit Jingnan Park. The green area in this side of Shanghai is welcoming to spend your afternoon. Jingnan park is a popular spot for locals, either for children to go biking, jogging around it or couples spot to spend time together. Green area is beautiful, open to the public. There’s a kindergarten and school nearby, as well as many housing complexes. Therefore, this park becomes a popular garden to enjoy a breath of nature near by. Had visited this place couple years ago, for a small picnic with friends. However, on my visit today found the park closed due to renovations. I suppose the park will be even nicer once reopens. Nevertheless, the park being close doesn’t prevent many to jog/bike around the block. Manner Coffee shop is located just outside Exit 3 (Line 9), in FOR shopping mall. Manner Coffee has several branches around Shanghai. This one is Yanggao Middle Rd branch. This coffee shop seems to be very popular, we had to make a line to get our coffee. They are a bit slow, too. They have a space to sit, but for some reason only have one chair at each side. Maybe to avoid people to come and work, considering the amount of clientele they receive in this small space. I didn’t saw any offer of bakery to enjoy with your coffee, however there’s a nice bakery near by. And another coffee shop with space to sit down few steps down the road. Above all, Manner coffee has more clientele. For a weekend stroll around Shanghai, I decided to visit a place in Fangdian Road (that seems to be closed). However, found a nice surprise right outside Exit 3 of metro: a street market. This market is mostly selling jewelry and accessories. Both jewelry stands are very popular with girls, that pass around and try the earrings or necklaces. The tea stand is quite nice, specially the red tea. You get to decide how much or even mix different teas to make your own blend. Additionally, my big surprise was to find few pets for sell. You find little cute birds 🐦 , bunnies 🐰, tiny hamsters 🐹, tow types of 🐢 and baby ducks 🦆. Some of the turtles were so tiny! This is the first time I see such pet store in the open in China. I did felt sorry for the birds, they should be free, not in cages. If you have some free time during this weekend, I’ll suggest you to come an visit. I just love these kind of markets. Coming to Jingnan Park in Pudong is to witness the elegance of the millennium ginkgo. This female ginkgo tree, numbered 0003 in the Shanghai Ancient Tree Protection, is known as the 'Third Sister' of the Magic City. Ancient trees are 'living archives' for understanding the social and historical process. The establishment of a park specifically for the careful protection of ancient trees reflects the warmth of the city, highlighting people's sense of belonging to the city and their respect for historical context and local culture, which is commendable.
