No. 8 Hengshan Road: A landmark block in Wutong District where retro and trendy meet
Hengshan Road, which has a history of one hundred years, is known as the "Champs Elysees of the East".
The renovated "No. 8 Hengshan Road" consists of retro villas, trendy open blocks, and various eye-catching literary and artistic shops. Take a walk here and feel the past and present of Wutong District's Shanghai culture.
👀Highlights:
The block is located between the International Chapel, the Meitong School and Shengjia Garden, forming a dialogue between new and old buildings, Chinese and foreign cultures, and time and space.
🔸Sheng Family Garden: Built in 1900, it is part of Sheng Xuanhuai's former residence. The 4,500-square-meter garden retains its original appearance from a hundred years ago.
🔸Mei Tong School: The former site of an international school built in 1922. Its architectural style continues the colors of the neighborhood - brick red, sand and cement-textured gray. The main building's iconic towering spire is very eye-catching on Hengshan Road.
🔸Water Tower Square: Built around the red brick-style water tower of the Meitong Public School, the building is reflected in the pool to form a mirror design.
🔸Contemporary buildings along the street: Different from the old buildings with plain red bricks, the two new buildings are mainly white, with a sharp contrast between red and white but harmonious tones. The street-facing facade is in Baroque style, with stone and glass splicing giving it a modern feel, and neatly arranged arches showing French elegance.
