Nanton Ancient City
Nanton Ancient City is located in Zhengxing Village, Nanton Town, Xiangcheng City, Zhoukou City, Henan Province. It is commonly known as 'Ghost Repair City' and is a large historical and cultural site group. It includes sites from the Xia and Shang dynasties, the city wall site of the Dunzi State, the ancient tomb group of Hamazhai in Nanton Ancient City, the ancient tomb group of Tianyuan in Nanton Ancient City, the Guangwu Platform site, and the Guangwu Temple buildings. The scenic area consists of the ancient city wall site of the Dunzi State, the Guangwu Platform site, and the Guangwu Temple building group.
In 1005 BC, during King Cheng of Zhou's eastern expedition, to intimidate the old Shang people here, he enfeoffed the descendants of the Ji surname to establish the Dunzi State. During the Spring and Autumn period, the Dunzi State moved south to this place to build a new capital called Nanton. In 496 BC, Chu destroyed Dun, and the Dun people became slaves of Chu, leaving the Dun capital to future generations. The ancient city wall of the Dunzi State currently preserves a part of the eastern section of the north city wall.
According to the Tang Dynasty's 'Kuodi Zhi' and 'Taiping Huanyu Ji', Liu Qin, the father of Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, served as the magistrate of Nanton County, and Liu Xiu was born in the Nanton County government office and lived here in his youth. After the 'revival of the Han dynasty', in the nineteenth year of Jianwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty (43 AD), he visited Nanton, and the people of Nanton built a platform to celebrate. Liu Xiu, remembering the old feelings of the elders, exempted Nanton from two years of land rent. The people of Nanton were grateful for generations and built a temple on Guangwu Platform to worship him. For more than two thousand years, the temple has been destroyed and rebuilt, and the incense has never ceased.
In May 2013, Nanton Ancient City was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
